I was taking my car to the car wash the other day when I popped a CEL on the way. Got home and scanned the car, and was greeted with the following three codes:

11th Gen Honda Civic B1E9A + P0420 + P16EB - Never want to be the first post to reference a code DTCcodes

I've got a gently massaged FL5 with the following:
PRL HVI
TSP Intake coupler
PRL Ti turbo inlet pipe
PRL Charge pipe
PRL intercooler & hoses
TSP down pipe
Remark SS front pipe & Ti exhaust

I ran with this exact mod setup (except for the TSP intake coupler, added after the car was parked this past winter) all last season with no issue. Stumped. Why is the active exhaust valve suddenly popping a code (P16EB) now after a year? I searched the forums here on the B1E9A codes and got the not-comforting result of 'no results found'. Did a wider Google search and still found nothing except for some Honda-focused discussion about the location of the three components that make up the unit it's talking about, and I've done zero in these areas recently (I added an Accord auto-dimming HomeLink mirror at the beginning of last year).

I know the P0420 is typical with some down pipes, but I'm using the supposedly problem-free TSP, and it was problem-free all last year, so again, I'm stumped. Some info says it points to a possible exhaust leak.

I'm hoping I didn't get something chewing on a random wire over the winter (caught a few shrews and mice in the traps I have in my garage over the winter), or that the ozone treatment I had to do to the interior 3 years ago to overcome the swamp water smell that appeared after delivery due to the dealership's prep team hasn't impacted the electronics, but from my reading, the 30 minutes I ran the ozone generator in the car shouldn't have come anywhere near the concentration levels or exposure times that would do any damage.

Did you try clearing the codes to see if they come back?

I haven't. In my experience that typically hasn't been a resolution in most cases. I don't drive this car a lot so it'll take some time to see what the effect, if any, will be.

True, but it’s always worth a shot.

You are going to get P16EB with an exhaust and module unplugged. Buy this to eliminate this code. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1877957468...Y/Y0EIwteizmWwPJdgfMuw3Q==|tkp:Bk9SR9LUusDAZw

Shouldnt be getting P0420 with a TSP downpipe. Clear the codes, and see what reappears. B1E9A might actually be a fault, but again, clear the codes and see if it returns.

OK... codes cleared. Now I just need to get out and drive it. Was hoping to take it to a car show our SCCA region is participating in on Saturday, but the weather isn't looking like it is going to cooperate.

The AEV canceller from eBay: Already ordered. Just thought it was odd as I've run for months without one and never tossed a code. Not sure if those who run without the AEV/with an aftermarket exhaust, also keep the fuse out from their early open valve hack like I did. At least the canceller is a cheap solution.

The P0420 code - I have no proof it's the DP, but the Internet consensus points at that.

The B1E9A is the weird one. However, as I backed down the driveway to head to the car wash that day, I did play with the options for the back up camera, switching back and forth between them to see if there was a better option than what I was using. I'd be thrilled if that somehow triggered it.

P16EB wont illuminate the engine light. It just stores a code with no engine light.

P0420 definitely sounds like a downpipe issue, but lets hope it was just a glitch and the code doesnt come back.

Heres hoping B1E9A doesnt return. Over the three years Ive owned my FL5, Ive had a couple communication codes for no reason. Cleared the code and they have never returned (Two separate communication codes).

Took the car out today with the AEV canceller in place & the AEV fuse back in place, and didn't get a CEL. Need to run it a few more days and then I'll scan it again to see if anything is pending.
