Hey everyone! Always shopping for upgrades as an unhealthy pass time lol

I was looking at some charge pipe upgrades and came across the HKS intercooler, piping upgrade.

I was wondering if a tune is needed? I already have the PRL HVI + Titanium turbo inlet and exhaust is ordered.

I plan on going with Cobb to do the tune eventually. Just planning out the future of this amazing car! Never thought I'd say I genuinely love my Honda!

Avoid the HKS charge pipes. They remove the much needed flex from your engine moving around when you're driving. The PRL charge pipes are fantastic.
I appreciate it! I didn't know that at all

Missed your question about tuning.

No, you do not NEED to tune with the parts you listed, but I would encourage you to tune it to take advantage of the parts you listed.

Makes sense, you think if I drop the intercooler in it to I would still need a tune? Also, which intercooler do you recommend? HKS logo looks pretty sick lol

I'm running the PRL tube and fin intercooler at the moment, and I have also used their bar and plate. The tube and fin is significantly lighter. I also like the design of the HKS. The WOT microtube is supposed to be the bee's knees as well.

You will likely loose a little bit of horsepower on the stock map with a larger intercooler, but that's easily made back up +more with a tune. You don't NEED a tune, but you should tune it to take advantage of the new modifications. Tuned cars feel like a rocket ship in comparison to the stock car.

Just throwing out another option, have you considered the Mishimoto intercooler and charge pipes? They were regarded as one of the best for the FK8.

Why does that happen? Wouldn't more cooling ability allow for less power fall off? Ie: be more or less the same until it gets pushed

It comes down to the large increase in overall volume.

I have not, let me take a look at those rq. Doesn't look like they have CTR charge pipe just yet.

I got the HKS, there's flex allowed with the couplers, however, the motor shouldn't move much as long as your mounts are in good shape. There are many front mount kits with hard pipes...my thinking was when the rubber boost tubes go then replace with solid so they last longer than I need. Plus I have always wanted an HKS kit for other cars but couldn't afford it back then. There are a few kits with solid pipes like mishimoto

Yeah, that...for every 10 degrees of air temp lower, you pick up about 1% more hp. The bigger the cooler, the a. more air and b. cooler air. Both making more power. Every car I've put a bigger intercooler on makes more power, not tons, but it does.

Definitely moving more air and cooler temps needs a tune. I'm learning, thanks for your patience!
