Hi there

As per the title, I have a dual resonator delete and there's just a bit too much drone for my liking. So I'm going to have one resonator put back on - question is which?! I still want a bit of sound and I'm thinking to just return the front one. I heard that removing the front and retaining the middle barely makes any difference to sound. So leaving middle resonator removed is what I'm thinking.

Anyone else on here done a reversal? Any thoughts?

Thanks

I left my front resonator in place and only removed the middle larger one - absolutely no drone to my ears. I've played with letting the valve do it's thing (running in +R engine mode) or pulling the fuse altogether - neither produced any drone. I've also listened to another car with both resonators removed and didn't noticed any drone in that car either. I guessed this matter is all subjective?

Are you running with the valve fully opened all the time?

No the fuse is in - would only add to the noise. I want it a little quieter but stock is way too quiet. Its too noisy for those in the back as it is.

Was there a big difference in the volume between the cars in your view?

Thanks

Volume wise, it's very minimal between the two cars. I would probably place it between 5% and 10% at most. You should try pinging @BJHNG as it was his car that I'd listened to that helped me decide. He did his in stages...so is more knowledgeable on the subject. He started with only the front resonator delete, but he also indicated that it was barely noticeable in sound. So he decided to remove the larger resonator as well. After hearing my car, he seems to like it better with just the larger resonator removed, so he reinstalled the smaller resonator in the place where the larger resonator used to reside - I haven't heard that setup, so only he can give you his opinion on this. He was also fighting a valve rattle with both resonator deleted - did you run in to this as well? See his thread here => https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/exhaust-valve-rattle-with-dual-resonator-delete.63928/

What mode are you running in? Does "comfort" help? I found that "comfort" to sound almost stock since the valve is closed most (90%) of the time as it only opens when it's near red line.

Thanks that's helpful- will drop him a message. Yes comfort mode does help to take the edge off the volume/drone, and I stay in that mode most of the time to make it bearable to drive!

I've never noticed any rattle by the way with the dual delete.

As long as the guy who cut off your resonators and welded in pipes didnt butcher everything it shouldnt be horrible..

Agree - I'm wondering if there's an exhaust leak if it is indeed droning?

I had the larger resonator deleted with the fuse mod until I switched to an aftermarket exhaust. I thought it sounded alright, was still a little droney but I think if you’re using the valve it should be pretty controlled when closed.

I have the dual resonator delete and I'm loving it so much! The sound if definitely much louder than stock even in comfort mode(I have the fuse pulled).
As far as understanding drone goes, I believe people have different takes on what feels like drone to them. For me, the sound is perfect loud and if at all it drones at certain rpm's I kind a like that feeling I have. For other's it might be annoying drone.

"Comfort" mode only help if the valve is active - there's no difference in sound if you pull the fuse (valve is fully open). Also, people often get confused on what actually controls the exhaust valve. "Engine Sound" controls the fake interior sound. "Engine" mode is what actually affects the valve as well as other "stuffs".

I have the middle resonator deleted. With the valve fuse pulled, there is some drone mainly at highway speeds. With the valve operating, the drone is only noticable with engine mode in sport or +R. In comfort mode, it's pretty minimal. This is probably my sound limit for a daily driver

In your case, that is NOT drone that you're describing. It is the nature of the louder exhaust. You're just hearing the exhaust more because it is louder. Drone is a resonance frequency or frequencies at certain engine RPM range...sort of like wind buffeting when you only open a front window driving at certain speed. I now understand why @marcusm86 said "most people don't know what it (drone) means"

For me, I only removed the front resonator and the fuse mod, it sounds like how the car should've been at stock form. The sound is just a bit louder, with a more throaty sound, and zero drone, not even in the slightest. I didn't want to draw attention to my 46 y/o self with an aftermarket exhaust, so this is where I'll remain. LOL UNLESS someone wants to sell me their Spoon exhaust on the cheap.

I had an NC miata muffler delete that was louder than the CTR but no drone. Also owned a catless mustang GT that was stupid loud but also no drone. Once I put the cats back on, there was drone even though it was significantly quieter. My buddy has a BRZ, and with a certain exhaust setup (tomei titanium I believe) is earrape loud but absolutely no drone in the cabin. I have an S2K single exit catback that drones terribly at ~4k RPM. Maybe I am confusing the resonator delete's elevated noise with drone but it's enough to be annoyingly noticable for me, as I can tell a difference between a loud clean sound vs a sound that reverbs in the cabin, even at a constant RPM/speed.

I will say with the middle resonator delete, if there is drone it's quite minimal even in +R mode. Totally bearable unless you're doing a cross country roadtrip. If you're used to louder exhausts then you'll have no issue.
