I dropped off the car Thursday evening at Santo's house so it'll be good to start working at 7am. He said he could do the cams, valve spring kit, turbo and intake manifold in one day most likely as long as nothing bad happens (keeper dropping/valve dropping into the bottom end). But as he said....one full day of work and he got everything done! Dude is a beast and straight up workaholic. He's been a Honda Master Tech for 10 years and what's crazy is that he's only just recently got into the aftermarket side of things for cars in general. With his extensive knowledge on cars it was an easy dive into the enthusiast world.

I arrived at 9:30am on Friday and he was just starting on replacing the first valve spring...

Compressed air is used to hold up the valves so this saves you having to remove the entire head. Even with my car having under 4k miles it's just best practice to have a compressor if you want to attempt this method.

11th Gen Honda Civic Kazuo_WFC 2025 Civic Type R build DSC01646

From my research and others with more experience tell me there isn't one of those spring compressor tools that you can easily bolt to the head. Santos did it the way he knew how and I honestly felt he wouldn't have any issues.

New valve spring seals. These pieces are like a 1/4 of inch in diameter with a tiny ass spring wrapping around it to create tension. They're really cheap so you might as well replace them...plus sometimes you might break a few getting them out.

11th Gen Honda Civic Kazuo_WFC 2025 Civic Type R build DSC01638

Valve spring keepers. This is the shit that scared me when I was researching if I could even attempt this with friends. These go between the retainer and valve stem to lock them together under the tension of the spring itself.

First impressions/under 4k rpm drive. Sounds amazing. More mechanical sounds which remind me of my GT3. Hmmm....maybe I'm just doing all this to make up for the lose of the Porsche. Oof. You can hear the cams clacking on the retainers at idle and it just put a smile on my face. I did throw a P0011 later but that shouldn't be an issue once JST codes it out. Alright it's the end of Father's Day and I asked my wife for some time to edit all this to share.

If anyone in SoCal is looking for perfection in workmanship and time efficiency on major installs hit up the man Santo's on his IG: https://www.instagram.com/type_s__santos

Peace to my fellow Type R Dads, non Dads, non male Dads, and female Type R Moms....ok I'll stop.

I'm just going to copy paste what I typed up on IG since it was a cliffnotes amount of more money wasted, a visual case study of an idiot:

Schroth Profi II ASM w/ additional FE Cam Lock. Wanted to finally put in a harness again for the current car I own. Last time I had 4 points was in the Abarth and that was purely for show haha. I think I still have them but they're definitely expired and are wraps on the shoulder straps.

So yeah I'm doing snap-in straps which I know is not street legal but I plan to install "eye" rings on the back seat buckle mounting points so I can easily install/remove them when not in use. Lap belts will be snapped into Spoon braces behind the seat. I'm only doing one set as I was always struggling with moving around in the fk8 on track...and I had the Recaro ASM RS-G which was a super snug fit but the thigh bolsters were low for daily usage.

Definitely over hyping myself on doing this but fuck it....shit should look dope. Extra cam lock in the legal format for if I do decide to wear these on the street. It's got their ASM breakaway shoulder strap so it's technically legal, minus the snap-in points. 😬🙃

Installed the custom titanium badge from https://www.instagram.com/mugenfl5r/ I already sent him a 2nd order to do a badge for the center cooling plate. Oh I made sure to ppf the badge since it's polished.

Did a quick wire tuck so you can see more of the intake manifold. Credit to Santos and Juan for the idea. I'm waiting for a hose measuring tool so I can convert the stock hoses to AN fitting hoses. I already know what the catch can needs but -6 hose is out of stock for the one I want. Just waiting game for now but once I figure out what else to replace I'll order asap.

Installed the Kinugawa BPV. I ordered this after the fact Santos did the install of the MDR turbo. I just love pain. Plus I needed to reach my target calorie burn for the day. 😩 So yeah that shit does not fit. Wonder if I later on I can change that line to give more space if I decide to change to a different bpv. I ended up hand filing it down to fit and used Birchwood aluminum black pen to oxidize the shaved area it doesn't look as ugly (not like you can really see it once everything is back on). That pen has been a lifesaver for my ocd on many projects. Highly recommend it. I believe there's even a wash kit you can get to oxidize larger pieces. Gun things. And I don't even own one.

Oh it does come with 3 different springs for holding ranges of boost but honestly I'd just leave it with the lightest one to match the OEM one. I mainly swapped this out to make it look less oem and to see if the sound would be different. I'm still waiting on my injectors and hpfp so just prepping for the end game tune.

Update on the bpv. Don't like it. I even switched it back to the softer spring to be sure since I'm running a safe tune since I don't have fuel upgrades yet. What's strange is someone over on IG is running the same bpv and didn't have install issues. Not sure if theirs was installed before putting on the turbo as I could see it fitting but really tight to where it would be making contact with an oil line but still function just fine.

I'm going to leave it for now until injectors arrive, hopefully another 1.5 weeks, and I'll get them installed and tuned.

I had to do it. I experienced AP Racing brakes back when I bought a used set for my GT3....and the main reason I bought them was so that I could take off the huge ceramic bbks and run 19 inch e88s. 🤣

The used set came off a GT4. Was a dentist on the east coast and I think he had sold the car. They were on Rennlist for like 6 months and no one wanted um so I did what any GTpoor owner would do....I lowballed him hard. He wanted 7k for front and rear, which is honestly a good deal, but I wanted it for cheaper cause that 6 month old post was blood in the water to us lowballing sharks.

I ended up getting them for 5k shipped and just used my work to ship them over to me. 🥳😬......ANYHOW....so yeah 5.2k~ gets you just fronts in nickel plated finish on a fucken Honda Civic....woo hoo!

Ok let's get to the photos. I plan to install these myself so I didn't mind opening everything up and documenting the "unboxing" experience. RIP to the packing peanut that didn't make it.

Just figured I'd try something different from what I see everyone else doing. Didn't work out with this part but honestly they all do the same thing if you're keeping it as intended (recirculating). HKS is the outlier here with their signature sound but not worth taking up space in the engine bay just for noise imo.

I was looking at BPV since OEM is plastic and does not seem reliable for the long run.

I am running a mild tune with Cobb intake, spirited driving in hot SoCal.

My understanding is that the factory rubber diaphragm degrades under heat cycles and elevated boost, creating leaks that reduce consistency and accelerate wear on related components.

Based on researching user reviews and comments, it seems that Boomba is more durable, higher flow capacity, a higher boost-holding capacity, and a noticeable improvement in throttle response.

also easier installation (no need to shave off the aluminum housing)

Personally, I do not care about noise. I rather have it as quiet as possible

I would just keep the oem one. I had oem on my fk8 for 60k+ miles and over 40k of that had it making 400hp and just under 400tq and it never needed replacing. I'm only changing mine to see how much it changes. And my research into bpvs.....99% they're all the same. Even down to the housings. Probably all private labeled from China. Spend your $150-$200 on something more substantial.

Spoon harness/brace bars came in. I honestly wasn't expect to like these as much as I am now that they're in the car. Looks spicy with the red interior. They say it add rigidity if you run both. Kinda like the do-luck rear cross bars from the 90s-00s (if anyone remembers that shit....congrats we're old af).

Main reason for me to get these was so that I can run my 4-6 point harness without having to drill into the chassis. I know Schroth makes that street legal one but I wanted to be able to completely remove mine quickly if needed.

Nice touch with the Spoon badges being on opposite ends of each brace.
