Yeah the memo is sus as hell. Trump basically neutered the CAFE regulations and a 1.5T manual or no is in not going to be near any remaining emission limits. I smell a rat.

Honda has traditionally stopped production of the Si one year ahead of the final model year for the Civic. That was at least true for the 9th and 10th generations. In that case, not much to see here. The confusing part is re: EPA regulations. Doesn't make much sense to me since the 1.5T is very efficient even in Si trim. We shall see.

Feels like a weird copout TBH, the Si is the most fuel efficient car in its class and the L15 is one of the most fuel efficient modern engines available today.

This really sucks. Not to be doom and gloom, but this basically means the affordable (manual) enthusiast cars are dead. Civic Si is gone, GTI is auto-only, GLI is dead, Elantra N is supposedly dropping the manual. I guess we still have the WRX and 86/BRZ, but that's it.

I hope this doesn't mean the Type R and Type S are next on the chopping block.

Before I bought my FL5, I looked at the new WRX models..They were MSRP at around $39000..The dealer had 7 or8 different model/trim versions on the lot..They offered a shitton of value for the dollar..If Honda drops the 6 speed manual, they will surely FAFO, because Subaru is very much in the game.

Update:

Honda has confirmed the move in a statement to Carscoops, though the company frames it around “evolving business conditions” rather than the EPA certification issue cited in the leaked plant notice. Both trims are planned to return, and dealer stock should last into early 2027. Honda also clarified that the pause doesn’t affect the range-topping Civic Type R and Integra Type S.

i bet a next generation SI and updated Integra A-spec will return next year: They'll just be hybrids with e-cvts. Honda has been slowly phasing out the 1.5t in the CIvics for a while now and eventually I think the 1.5t will be replaced by the hybrid in the ADX and just come standard in Accords, Integras and maybe even CIvics/HRV/CRV in the next generations. Journalist who have driven the next gen CIvic protoype reported it drives like an "automatic SI" hmmm. SI/Integra should have had the 2.0t from the Accords anyway. Good riddance.

I believe Honda positioned the Si properly for what it is. I also don't believe Honda will give a non-manual, CVT car an Si badge. Honda has been fairly rigorous over the years on what receives the "R" and "Si" badges.

yup that’s what I love about Honda. They’re unwilling to dilute the Type R or the Si name like most other brands. That could always change, but I’m happy I don’t have to see a “Type R Sport CRV” on the streets lol.

Haha nah I don’t really have a problem with the GR sport Rav. To each their own. I don’t really have a problem with any of those kind of vehicles, but it’s just nice to know that Honda reserves the Type R and Si names for cars that deserve the badge.

I think it's only a problem when paired to the 6MT, not so much the engine itself?

A close relative works for the Big 3 and they hate manuals since they can't pre-program shifting to easily meet EPA rules.

It would be an e-cvt, not a "CVT" also Honda has built SI or SI equivilent models with automatics before: CIvic RS, Prelude SI. If Honda can take the Prelude, its flagship coupe and make it a hybrid with an e-cvt, offer no manual, no 1.5t or 2.0t , I would not be surprised if they do the same to the Civic Si. The Si has become irrelevant because of the Type R, it has been stagnant with 200hp for far too long, being outclassed in power by all of its former rivals (GTI, WRX, etc. ) and the Si has evolved over the years from hatch backs to coupes and sedans, etc. I do believe it will comeback but I doubt a manual or the 1.5t will be in the cards going forward.

This misses the mark entirely on the si. The prelude was also a derivative vehicle (in the past it was based off the Accord), the si is a trim that embodies ideas and heritage that Honda has built. Notice how the SI trim of any Honda vehicle was always more sporty at the very least. To say the Type R cannibalizes the SI fails to understand what SI means - sport injected versus type racing.

I don't disagree that it'll change in a few years, but in the immediate I don't see any reason for Honda to make it a hybrid. If they did it would be closer to a type S or A spec than it would a si or a type R.
