I guessed the full throttle area on top of the esses before even watching the video. To me that is the most ballsy part of the track given the SCCA STL/Gridlife race videos I watched from VIR while competing in STL on the west coast.

Crazy crash. Super happy that you are okay. Rebuild and get some redemption!

You were right on the money! That's easily the scariest part of the track for me, and it's taken a lot of practice to try to go faster through there. Unfortunately this time my cadence was off, and my last steering input was too quick for the state of the traction that I had available in that moment.

That was very hard to watch... I'm so saddened by this but I'm glad you shared as it serves as a wake up call to all of us who track regularly. The risk is always there and that could have happened to even the most experienced driver.

Most of the upgrades were destroyed unfortunately. I'll be lucky if they let me keep the brakes.

Damn, what a bummer. I hope you’ll get a chance to pull anything good/useful off the car. If you don’t mind posting more pics, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s curious. The car looks to have held up surprisingly well. Hope you‘re not too sore, I know it can take day or so for things to start aching after a hard crash.

Ben, don’t beat yourself up on it. Everyone makes mistakes and so do the pros. Partition the negative comments and the ones trying to decipher your mistake via the video. If they are not a pro racer or an instructor familiar with VIR, they’re just making assumptions without access to car data. Were you off throttle, how long, where and all that bullsh1t. It’s the internet filled with keyboard warriors.

Take it easy. Rest up. Heal. We are all here when you are ready.

I just watched the YouTube video. Dayum.....
I am very new to track cars, and just bought a FL5. I have my first ever track run scheduled for May 30th at mid Ohio.
I know it will be a complete training run, single file, no passing etc. but this scared the shit out of me. Not sure the track is for me. I thoroughly enjoy this car. And know it is a special car.
I may track, but I am sure I won't push as hard.
Hats off to you, I am glad you are ok, and you have guts.....

Don't be shy'd away from the track. I made a fundamental error. This information puts you ahead of me through my experience. I encourage you to hit the track with the instructor, and then base your decision from there. The instructors are there to keep you safe, and on the track. I run in an advanced group, and as you can see, sometimes we make bad judgement calls.
