Soon, the staff began tech inspections again. I got inspected and classed as "Street Bandit, and was instructed to get in the line behind the line of cars that began with a Scion xB.
"Street Bandit" tech label, photographed the following day in my friend's driveway.
I really had to pee at that point, and my cabin was full of loose items from my house in San Antonio.
Got my car near the back of the line and went to the head and relieved myself, washed hands, and returned to my car.
Then I began the task of rearranging my stuff so that it wouldn't fly around in the cabin, or worse, out the window.
Rear seat area. Not a ton of stuff, but still.
Had a small cooler behind the driver seat, trash can behind the front passenger seat, a sun shade, a roll of paper towels, 4 shirts on a hanger, a helmet bag, a pillow, and my fishin hat.
The trunk. I drove to DFW with a full size spare, a torque wrench, my suitcase, backpack, and laptop in the trunk.
Adding shirts to trunk.
Adding pillow to trunk.
Almost all set. At this point, Mike found me. It was already 7:45 or so, and he got to the stadium even later than I did, so late that he missed getting his car teched for Drag Race.
As we caught up greeting each other, Mike said, "Why are you over here? The cars are all over there. You're about to miss getting on the track."
Gotta strap in the helmet bag,
stuff the sunglasses in the door,
... and get my helmet up front with me, so it's ready to rock.
So I scrambled to get in line, and alas...
there was no more line.
In scurrying to secure my belongings, I completely missed my chance to get on the oval, and missed out on the race.
Bummer.
