Soon, the staff began tech inspections again. I got inspected and classed as "Street Bandit, and was instructed to get in the line behind the line of cars that began with a Scion xB.

"Street Bandit" tech label, photographed the following day in my friend's driveway.

I really had to pee at that point, and my cabin was full of loose items from my house in San Antonio.
Got my car near the back of the line and went to the head and relieved myself, washed hands, and returned to my car.
Then I began the task of rearranging my stuff so that it wouldn't fly around in the cabin, or worse, out the window.

Rear seat area. Not a ton of stuff, but still.

Had a small cooler behind the driver seat, trash can behind the front passenger seat, a sun shade, a roll of paper towels, 4 shirts on a hanger, a helmet bag, a pillow, and my fishin hat.

The trunk. I drove to DFW with a full size spare, a torque wrench, my suitcase, backpack, and laptop in the trunk.

Almost all set. At this point, Mike found me. It was already 7:45 or so, and he got to the stadium even later than I did, so late that he missed getting his car teched for Drag Race.
As we caught up greeting each other, Mike said, "Why are you over here? The cars are all over there. You're about to miss getting on the track."

Gotta strap in the helmet bag,

stuff the sunglasses in the door,

... and get my helmet up front with me, so it's ready to rock.

So I scrambled to get in line, and alas...
there was no more line.
In scurrying to secure my belongings, I completely missed my chance to get on the oval, and missed out on the race.

Bummer.

That's what I get for being so dang late to my first automotive event with my own vehicle. At 6:30 p.m., I was over two hours late, and would still have made it into the Drag Race, with time to spare, if I was there just one hour earlier.

All was not lost, of course, because "Drag" is only half of "Drift N Drag".

So I parked my car and joined Mike over at the Drift Pad, where he had registered his '05 Lexus IS300 to participate in a bit of getting sideways.

Mike is new to drifting. This is only his second Drift N Drag. Gotta start somewhere.

No photos so it didn't happen...
but near the very end of the night, the event staff finally opened up the oval for those of us who missed out on the Drag competition to get out there and just go head to head untimed just for fun.
Mike and I finally got out on the track and got to open up our cars for a couple of quarter-mile shots.

I had a great time out there. Definitely gonna try to get back to the Speedway again in the future.

Cheers.

I just happened to be parked near a really cool old school blue Camaro, and the lighting was just right..
I read this part, and my mine totally said 'Awesome, his car would look great next to a first gen camaro...hope its a 68!'

Then I saw the pics, and my mind reminded me 'Dude, youre old. You STILL dont see the 80 Camaros as old school, even though they're as old as you...'

Yes, my mind shit talks myself often.

Thanks, anonymous Blue Camaro!
This pic though, is fan-effing-tastic. Good shot!

Thanks.
So, is that an '80 Camaro? I figure it is an "Early '80s" Camaro, but not totally sure.
I must be a couple years younger than you.

Also, my mind talks shit to myself as well. Great minds, ammiright?

I appreciate the compliment on the photo. Still using a 2017 iPad over here, so there's only so much it can do. Me? I don't know how to do much, except get the camera low for a decent shot. The fact that there was still plenty of daylight made the shot possible. You can tell that once it got dark, so did the iPad.

Success is showing up. 🙌🏾

That’s dope that you got to make it out on the oval. Banked corners are quite the experience if there were any, I couldn’t really tell from my phone.

So...

"Of course I didn't take the car up and around the bank before and after the straight." - Official Disclaimer.

... Because I absolutely showed up on time for the briefing, and I definitely got to read the entire waiver before signing Page 16, which totally wasn't the only page, handed to me by itself, as my car got tech inspected.

So, "No, I definitely didn't drive up on onto the bank."

So while I only signed Page 16, I definitely read the whole waiver. Achooo!!!

Well, my inability in general typing skills first thing in the morning really showed up today...I meant to type 80's Camaro. Apparently my mind gave it up, 'ah well close enough...'

I don't know them well enough to pinpoint, but the 3rd gen ran from 82-92 from what he wiki reports.

Age, I hit the big 4-0 milestone this year. 41 is a mere 2 months away....

Only 40?
Sheeit, you're barely hitting middle age.
Hang in there, brother; it gets worse.
