The only deals I found in SoCal at 1k over Msrp was if you financed through them. Kickbacks. Worst offender was CarPros El Monte. Otherwise depending on the dealer I have seen 1,500-2,000 markup in SoCal. There’s a few dealerships with several cars and many with none or one.

I have a new renewed interest in picking up an FL5 now that I know there's a way to address the pogo-stick bounciness of the suspension. Unfortunately, it seems I'm a bit late to the party as inventory is dropping and ADM's are climbing back up. In the Bay Area ADMs are $5K to upwards of $10K. Told them to kick rocks because DE5s are going for under sticker and would be far cheaper...

I did find a dealership (El Monte) in Socal that would do MSRP, but only for BB, and CW has a $10K ADM and SGP has a $7K ADM. Unfortunately, BB is my least favorite color, with CW and SGP being my top two choices...

If anyone know if any dealership in CA that are doing MSRP for CW or SGP I would be immensly grateful, but at this point I'm not optimistic.

For the month of December I hit up nearly every dealership in SoCal for a CW. The lowest they were willing to go down to was 2k ADM over phone/email. I ended up buying out of Iowa for MSRP and having it shipped for $1200. I looked at a lot of different states too. Louisiana had a few dealership close to MSRP. The ones in SoCal that had the lowest ADM were Lake Elisinor, Santa Ana Freeway, Irvine Norm Reeves, and Woodland Hills. Not sure on their inventory though. However, all of this could have changed since 1/1 though. Hope this helps.

inventory is 1/3 of what it was when I picked mine up at Precision Honda a month ago. I think you’re not going to find msrp in SoCal til a lot more stock is in.

Dont forget in October 1 2026, CARS act goes into effect.

CARS Act California Bill

All California dealers have to be transparent with pricing and disclose all markups and dealer add-ons.

Would the CARS act help with adm? The way it sounds it's intended to get rid of value-less add one and general deceptive practices. I could easily see an extended warranty as justified.

I dont think so, I talked to my buddy who does Finance at a dealership and he was already trying to spin how they will try to get around it.

Its more about the transparency, but in the law itself it says that if dealers put add-ons on the cars, they have to disclose the price and that its optional.

So i would think thats for like alarm/extended warranty/etc..Not sure how they will go about it with the forced dealer add-on.

He said also basically if you wont buy it with the accessory, they just wont sell it to you if its already on it for example.

Also if you are using the Motoring Obsession site...for out of state
I called all except Rensselaer Honda.

The other 4 all had markups.

I did. Once and I will NEVER go back or recommend their dealership. In fact, I will actively share my negative experience every opportunity I get.

My salesperson, Manny Ortiz, no longer works there but what I went thru was everything people hate about the car buying experience. I told Manny that I had an active offer and didn't want to waste his time or mine if he couldn't beat it because I was coming from the opposite side of San Diego. I had check in hand ready to close THAT DAY. He says, "Come on in and lets make it happen." So I drive over an hour out of my way to get there (I'm in Otay Ranch) and this clown starts in with alllll kinds of games. All of the sudden he is unavailable so they give me the Junior sales person to show me the car. Then Junior says he has an offer that Manny wanted to pass on to me. Its MSRP + $20K + accessories. I told him he better get Manny in here ASAP because this isn't what I drove all the way up here for.

So as I'm waiting for Manny another guy shows up interested in the same FL5 I'm looking at. Says he wants to buy today and he's got a trade in. I actually wouldn't put it past this scummy dealer to put an actor into this situation because something felt "off" about him. Anyway, Manny finally shows up and says he can't even come close to my active offer. I stand up, tell Manny to go fuck himself for wasting my time and yell over a few cubicles to the other FL5 guy with his sales person that he can have it, but if he pays $20k over MSRP he's a clown.

There. That's the story.

Woooosahhhh.

Yeah I just barely started looking for a 2026 and I am remembering now why I bought my last CTR (2019) Out of state and had it shipped back home.

California dealers are PITA.

As long as they are transparent up front I dont want to drive out unless Im buying the car.

All that BS about, oh you have to show up in person before we can tell you the REAL price is such a waste of time for everyone.

If you tell me the price up front, no hidden add-ons and the car is exactly how you advertised it, I will buy at the terms we agreed.

I was minutes from placing a non-refundable deposit for a place on the waiting list (not a guarantee that I'll even be able to purchase) from an out-of-state dealer, when I got a message from Airport Marina Honda in Los Angeles. $2K over, no charge for installed options.

I suspected a bait and switch andI made up my mind to walk away if they did not honor their verbal agreement to the cent, but they did, no upsale, no pressure, just as agreed, MSRP + $2K.

It would have cost about the same to get it shipped (or fly and drive back), and there is always a risk in buying

Yeah thats what I am hoping to avoid.

I have 3 kids busy schedule, I'm not trying to drive to 2-3 dealers a week to show how "serious" a buyer I am and play those games.

All buyers want is transparent pricing and no surprises when actually visiting the dealership to see the car.
