If you adjust for inflation, this year is still on par with that price.
Right. Exactly. What’s crazy is how quickly inflation shot up from the pandemic and now the average new car price is now around $50k last I checked. It’s totally unprecedented. Even people who are doing well (like upper middle class) are feeling the pressures of the high prices of everything. I guess my point is, even though the prices are on par given inflation, I think it was easier to buy a new car prior to the pandemic. Our dollars were stretching further than they do now (at least it certainly felt that way). It sucks.

Fun thread. Here's my contribution. The official Honda Newsroom. If any official announcement was going to be made, I expect it to be posted there:

https://hondanews.com/en-US/honda-automobiles/channels/honda-civic-type-r

On the pricing tab:
https://hondanews.com/en-US/honda-a...ectedTabId=honda-civic-type-r-pricing-and-epa

I love tracking trends. I learned that MSRP changed a lot (disregarding destination fees) sometimes even within the same model year.

Model yearBase MSRP (USD)Date Posted
2017$33,90006-14-2017
2018$34,10011-01-2017
2018$34,70005-01-2028
2019$35,70001-03-2019
2019$36,30007-09-2019
2020$36,99502-19-2020
2021$37,89501-05-2021
2021 (LE)$43,99501-05-2021
2023$42,89510-27-2022
2023$43,29501-04-2023
2023$43,79505-02-2023
2024$44,79511-21-2023
2025$45,59510-29-2024
2025$45,89501-03-2025
Keep in mind the 24 was on lots almost 2 months prior. That Newsroom announcement just coincided with price increases. Oddly they missed the announcement on GA on the 24 on the newsroom site, and Honda published materials dating back to August

It's been getting progressively harder to buy cars. Honestly it started with Cash For Clunkers in the US. That killed the used car market and started driving new car sales and prices up.

I'm starting to buy into the no 2026's coming. I just sold my 2024 to a local dealer that said there was no 2026 and that they were buying used in advance to keep inventory. They paid an unusually high cash price for my used with >7900 miles and now have it marked up well above MSRP.

I still have no idea on a 26 but there are some that were sure of it happening. What is the date that would make you say it's done? Dec? 1st of the year? 2027 and nothing still shows up?

I'm actually thinking about buying another new FL5 if I can get one for MSRP.

Makes me wonder if they are stalling because they have to move all production to the NA factories. Like was said before, you'd think if they were completely cancelling it worldwide they would have said something by now.

My latest theory is they held off as long as they could to see what would happen with tariffs between the US and Japan. They are lower now than they were 6 months ago which could explain the huge influx of last minute 2025 cars.

Did the unexpected tariffs kill a Limited Edition FL5 coming to America? Maybe...

So you're telling me 2017 was the year to buy a type R and I missed out 🤣

Why wasnt I thinking when I was in highschool!
2017 was nuts. I remember seeing a few CTRs for the first time at my local cars and coffee, some of these guys (and even kids, like college kids) were taking out 84 month loans to help reduce their monthly obligation after paying 15k+ over MSRP to have one.

I remember looking at a used one in the summer of 2017, at a Toyota dealer, they were asking 6k over MSRP. On the spot, a guy walked up and bought it.

In some ways nothing has changed. Youtube has tons of delivery videos where people pay 5-10k over sticker. Example A:

500 over msrp walking out.....walking in it was 10k over.
I had check in hand. They had a car or two incoming. Shear dumb luck. I asked nicely for a price and the sales manager that day may have felt good, or may have just given his/her notice. Who knows.

Based off what I gathered on the newsroom site the first week of January is historically the latest date they have ever posted any official pricing. Marketing teams are probably still busy with the Prelude launch but I would expect to see something by then.
