All I know is that I’m tired of replacing door cylinder locks. I wonder if putting some type of sticker on the window letting them know “shits locked down” is worth it.

I’ve started taking my shifter stalk out of the car as another visual deterrent. Feels like starting a fighter jet when I get in it for the first time during the day peeling off all of the layers of security lol.

I haven't looked at the original post in a while, but are you in the USA? It almost sounds like an arms race with how you talk about needing to change locks. We have some bad spots where I am, but auto theft really only happens in the less than nice places in cities - and almost exclusively to specific vehicles.

Ravalco rebuttal to IGLA does seem more of a "damage control" and I did not like it at all, I have a very good BS detector (I used to work as contractor for the FBI, Counter Intelligence)

but, I just got off the phone with Ravelco, liked what their tech had to say as far as real rebuttal, no BS detected there.

The video is misleading, per Ravelco tech. the tech said that he likes this video out there, since if anyone attempts to replicate the video as is, they will absolutely fail. apparently the guy in the video did other things prior to shooting the video. not sure how Ravelco tech knew it. but he does know his system.

The Ravelco key/plug should never be left in the car, even if hidden.

The Ravelco socket and decals should be visible to deter thieves from even attempting to break into the car (per multiple security videos that Ravelco told me about, I have not looked for or watched any)

I made a few suggestions for improvements and hardening, but it seems that Ravelco already implemented these, the Ravelco tech asked me not to disclose my ideas.

I have the VVT (or was it VTT) OBD port lock.

I also have the 41.22 kill switch, which I have not yet installed, might not be necessary with the Ravelco, yet another layer of security.

for long term parking in public areia I use both "The Club" and steering wheel to brake pedal lock

and I just purchased the spytec GPS tracker

I rarely park the car in a public place, and never at night, so the Ravelco and GPS tracker are just extra piece of mind well worth it for me: $720 one time Ravelco and $15/mo. for GPS.

I get the clearance level concerns for sure.

If a thief is willing to buy a tool to replicate your key, I think they'd also be willing to buy a multi-meter. They would also have access to the plug unless you hide it.

I can reason with Ravelco slowing down/preventing the average theft, but I don't get how you watched it get bypassed and come to the conclusion that it has a lower risk of exploitation compared to a product that has no evidence of ever being bypassed.

Yeah I live the US. My neighborhood is a good middle class, blue collar section. I think these scumbags are coming up from shitty areas and “shopping”. This was yesterday morning.

Probably the last reply so we can stop hogging the thread, but the tech really just pulled the "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing". It's funny that the videos are "fake" but they admitted to you and launched a mini campaign about their improvements.

Ultimately I don't think they make a BAD product. It's at worst a deterrent and will stop the majority of thieves I would think. The fact that their competitor is more discrete, has no record of being bypassed, and can retain factory functions(remote start for example) I think just overall makes it better. Outside of a niche case such as yours(potential issues getting on base) I genuinely don't know why anyone would pick Ravelco over IGLA except for cost.

I feel like a hidden killswitch + GPS would give you the same effect as the Ravelco, but I'm not paying your bills haha - whatever works ultimately.

I had the Ravelco installed on Friday

The installer was awesome, loves what he does and it shows, answered all my questions, took his time and did a perfect job.

Works as advertised, I am fairly certain that it will be very difficult to defeat, video notwithstanding.

I still have the 41.22 kill switch with the remote control, new in box. I never installed it. not sure if I should sell it, or install it as a backup in case the Ravelco is defeated...

This should make drive-away theft very difficult, time consuming, if not impossible.

Next on my list is to evaluate GPS trackers for recovery when the thieves use a flatbed truck.

seems easier to defeat than the Ravelco...

all a thief has to do is get a $100 signal jammer, and plug it into the cigarette lighter socket, no GPS signal, possibly also no cell phone signal.

If thieves are sophisticated enough to clone the key fob, or bring a flatbed truck, they probably also have GPS signal jammers...

Really hard to get away from dealerships around here where KARR isn't installed. I've removed it from several cars I've had in the past. Thankfully my current FL5 was from a dealer that wasn't associated with KARR, but I am having a kill switch installed this weekend.

I contacted KARR, who were very responsive.

I found out that my dealer installed KAAR was the cheapest version (which they still stickered at $2000... I did not pay for it and they "disabled" but not removed it).

thankfully, this cheap version is stupid, no bluetooth.

KAAR offered to schedule an appointment to remove it, but I did not follow up, since I assume $$$.

Whelp, mine was the one stolen last Friday. Considering buying another one and fitting it with IGLA along with using heavy duty locks on our gates. Won't help if it was done via tow truck/flatbed - unfortunately I live in a rental and do not have outside cameras to see how it was taken.

Feeling very frustrated right now, this is the 7th time I've had a Civic stolen.

Feeling very frustrated right now, this is the 7th time I've had a Civic stolen.

Yep they'll tow it if they want it bad enough unfortunately. The real solution is to start ridding ourselves of the criminals unfortunately.

Sheesh man sorry to hear that. Do you know for sure that’s how they took it? Any tracking devices/air tags

Not sure how it was taken, I don't currently (fixing this in a few days) have an external camera. I'll note that I reported it stolen to Honda on Friday around 5pm and they did not take action with the police until Monday around 2pm. ZERO activity over the weekend, in fact their stolen car recovery department isn't even open on the weekends. I will be demanding a refund on my (whopping) $10.70 fee or disputing it because that is just BS.
