Honda no longer produces in the UK so they need to bring production here if anywhere. US plant(s) can produce plenty of vehicles for us.
I am shocked they didn't build it here. I imagine future plans we don't even know about played a part.

Just left Waldorf Honda. They’ve still got the Type R. Apparently no one’s willing to bite with an $18,000 markup. It arrived on the 13th of December so next Saturday will mark a month.

If a dealership can’t sell an R at ~$62,000 then I think it’s safe to say they will be selling for even less private party. I don’t think potential recession fears are what’s preventing someone from buying it. The vast majority of Waldorf residents work for the government and/or related industries. Recessions tend not to hit government workers nearly as hard.

I assume any ā€œwhalesā€ with deep pockets would have snapped the car up if they were interested. I assume, The car still being there also means that no one is even offering in the ballpark of what the dealership is asking.

What does this mean? Well the ā€œmarket valueā€ of an FL5 is almost certainly under $60,000 - probably less than $55,000. Mind you this is also the market value in a high income/high col region with pretty stable government jobs with pretty mild winters. I imagine a lower income state with a more vulnerable job market will be forced into selling their Type R for even less.

Brexit is partly to blame, and Honda continues to lose market share in the UK. These coupled with regulation changes aren't working favorably for Honda's current lineup. There are quite a few more reasons but these cover the broadest of issues

Oooh even better news! So after leaving Waldorf Honda I decided to call Honda of Tysons Corner. Now Tysons has the exact same spec(huge coincidence) also asking ~$62,000 and according to the front desk attendant the car has been there over a MONTH. The difference is while Waldorf is nice, Tysons Corner is rich people. Tysons Corner has our exotic car dealerships, they have the high end of every store you can imagine. So if you can’t sell a $62,000 Type R in Tysons Corner, you can’t sell it anywhere!

And I do believe it’s been there a month because I asked the phone attendant not a salesperson. The front desk worker doesn’t sell cars and would be around it all the time. So they’d have much less reason to lie.

Ask boostlag. But I don’t think the dc area cars have been there a month yet.

So about 3 weeks with it falling over major holidays. Can’t see these selling for pushing 20k but they’ll sell for 10 soon enough.

Yeah I remember hearing that Honda is way behind everyone on emissions credits which is quite surprising considering they are the largest motor manufacturer in the world, also probably the exact reason they are so far behind.

The ones for 10 over have been sold in the area. There was a grey one for 5k over that was scooped instantly.

Which is a pretty rapid drop. Does anyone know when they first hit dealerships? And how much were those going for?

I believe the dealer near me is still sitting on theirs at $20k over. Car arrived around mid-December. They wouldn’t budge for me even after gett two Pilots from them in the last 5 years.

Maybe I’ll swing past them with mine that I bought from one of their competitors for much less 😁

These cars are selling all day long at $55k before tax, title, and tag…

Honda of Valley Stream (NY) - BAIT AND SWITCH. We had agreed upon pricing for a car that has a $5,000 markup, when I went through with the paperwork they had a contract for $20,000 markup. They blamed it on a computer glitch when in reality they tried to cheat me into paying $15,000 more for the car when TWO sales people agreed to the original price. DO NOT TRUST this dealer they will try to scam you.

I just called them today about the Type R in stock and they now decreased the markup to 15k. I told them I'll skip it.

Good for you. Long Island has a bunch of crap dealers. Honda City had ZERO interest in keeping my business with them after getting two $40k plus Honda Pilots with them. They wanted $20k over and being a previous two time customer meant nothing. I think they are still sitting on their Type R at $20k as we speak 🤣
Still there lol last week. The saleman told me last week that it'll sale right away at 20k markup cause Paragon Honda sold one for 100k.
