I was about to ask the same question about AFE filters! I’m curious about the quality of the dry medium.

Here are 2 AFE P/Ns that should fit the same as the PRL filter:

TF-9007D

21-90052 (this one has a 1” hole in the top for whatever reason. But it looks like it’s plugged, and it’s significantly cheaper.)
TF-9007D is ever so slightly too tall. To get the air box lid on you have to force it. It'll fit, but the lid rubs on the top of the filter.

This filter also caused erratic MAF readings for me. My fuel trims were all over the place and at one point the car kept dying right after startup with a MAF out of range code. Swapped filters and it immediately went away.

I assume the dry media has decent filtering. It's very dense and thick. Intake sounds were also super quiet with this filter.

I want to try their pro guard 7 oiled media. Supposedly has top tier filtration and hopefully won't cause the MAF issues I was experiencing. I have a few PN's that should fit but their filters are quite pricey for testing purposes. And not available on Amazon so no easy way to return.

Okay! I guess that settles that! Interesting that the MAF freaked out.
Thanks for the input!

Thank you for this! This is another huge aspect people overlook. These companies manufacture these all as one system. When we change one part of the system, it may alter aspects we didnt intend on.

What do your trims look like with the oiled filter?

Never above +-5, usually+-3 or so.

This is true, however I’m still surprised that filter had such a large effect. I’ve looked at my fuel trims fairly extensively with the stock intake and filter, the PRL intake and filter, and the PRL intake with the AEM dry filter. There was no discernible difference in fuel trims or other parameters, and no difference in drivability. That AEM filter must be thicc!

Yes im also surprised, perhaps since its 6inch and doesn't seal correctly?

I'm always curious what do the trims look like with the stock setup?

So those 2 AFE filters have a flange inside diameter of 5.5 inches and should be a tight fit. The original PRL filter I had measured 5.5in as well, but the MAF housing is somewhere around 5.75in which is a little odd since there’s no filter out there that I know of with that size flange. The AEM filter that I have has a 6in flange which is too big but does seem to seal fine when clamped down.

As far as fuel trims, my car seems to stay fairly steady at about -3 give or take on the long term trim, if I remember correctly (it’s been a while since I’ve looked at the data logs). I’ll have to review the logs soon, I think I noted when I changed filters.

Thank you yes I've gone back and forth from the PRL and was hoping to pick up the MST intake. It'll give that loud whoosh i want.

I asked I understand it's a variable but at the end of day as long as trim stay stable with whichever it works but no one's really showing what the factory field trips look like I guess I also plan to get an OBD Bluetooth connector but then I have to remove my OBD lock.

Are you using an app or an actual OBD device

I’m using the flashpro for data logging since my car is tuned, but I have no reference from the stock tune. I did have to flash back to stock last spring for inspection, and I tried using the flashpro for datalogging but it wouldn’t read the fuel trims. I’ll have to do that again next month and I have a crappy obd2 code reader which I will connect and glance at out of curiosity.

Stock tune and intake keep long term trims very close to 0. Usually in the negatives but +-2 or tighter. As you probably know, short term fuel trims fluctuate a lot more.

With PRL HVI long term trims are a bit more loose on the positive side +3 or so, but short term trims seem to be a bit tighter overall. Never really exceeding +-8 or so.

I've been interested in the MST intake as well! Trying to confirm fuel trims as well as the filter size. I'd like to pick up an AEM Dryflow that will fit. But don't want another PRL situation where the velocity stack is sized oddly and no filters really fit well except for the included one.

And if you run the PRL HVI without the side panel, its super loud. Would probably be similar to the MST. Iat would be higher of course at low speeds but I'm sure they are with the MST as well.

See this.

I don't have Facebook so I can't see it but apparently there's a lot of discussion and SBX has been amazing about providing updates.

It does seem like a very loud intake which is awesome
