AEM dryflow filter for PRL HVI intake

I washed my car today and when drying the engine bay took a better look at my PRL HVI. I have a hard time believing the half inch shorter filter would fit out the front opening. I think it will still need to come out the side access panel.

Yeah ....... it does look funky. If you look even closer, the side door does not fit flush.

Figured I'd update the gang since my AEM dry filters came in. In short, it ain't happenin'. The filter base is way too big to fit into the front opening no matter which way I tried to orient it, the only way to service the filter is through the access panel (and removing the ECU in the process).

Not a total loss though, I prefer dry filters anyway and I've gotten pretty good at removing the ECU because of reasons. So when it comes time to service the filter in about 50k miles (per AEM's website) I can probably bang out the job in about 20 minutes (not accounting for time cleaning the filter and letting it dry).

Honestly, no change in sound that I could detect. Have you had a chance to drive yours yet?
Nope haven’t installed, got some gold insulated tape to wrap the box, might decide to also install shifter cable bushings while it’s out, just stockpiling parts while it’s too cold to install. I did also buy an infrared space heater for the garage lol

Might also wait until after I get the steering recall performed, just got my letter this week, but gotta swap to the OE wheels first so that wouldn’t happen til Spring.

Trying to figure out new method to heat up the garage space also (currently running a propane heater). Your mod path is basically what I did/have planned. Steering recall letter received this week but I'll likely bring it in in the spring once I mount the summers and new wheels. I also did the shifter cable bushings at the same time as the PRL HVI. ECU was uhhh...touched...because of reasons, I recommend the same if you haven't considered it already. Contact our friend @Jester04 for that.

Blue Honda? Lowering springs? Camber arms? Rear sway bar? PRL RMM? Do all of these apply to you or will apply to you? Just admit we're the same person at this point. Looking forward to your progress my man.

Yes, boost blue with PRL RMM lol. No plans for suspension for the time being. I’m considering the shop in Carlisle PA that does ECU unlocking because that’s a reasonable drive away, but that’s probably some years out.

That was my plan when it comes time for a cleaning (at which point I'll switch it out for a dry filter) but wasn't sure if there was a better way.
Not to get technical but you don't necessarily *have to* remove the ECU, that's just the easiest and quickest way to access the filter for service. The alternative is to remove the entire filter box from the hose side but that's a lot more trouble, in my opinion.

To answer your question directly; yes, I'm removing the ECU to get to the filter.

I actually never removed my ECU when I first installed my PRL HVI. Even when I swapped recently out the filter, I’ve always removed the whole box. Im sure it’s easier going through the side.. but It’s just something about the ECU that I don’t like touching and/or unplugging lol.

So how's everyone liking the AEM Dryflow on the PRL HVI? I'm looking to pick one of these up as I've read that the AEM Dryflow filters have a filtration efficiency of 99% or higher.
