Owning a full bolt on FL5 for less then the cost of a stock ITS is also a decent win in my book.
If you can get one without a markup, 100% agreed. I couldn't at the time my DE5 became available so that was an easy one for me.

It's more that in addition to being a better car, it's a symbol of Honda's motorsport heritage.

The other is just another Acura trim.
Is it though? If the Type S "borrows" all the same engineering that went into the Type R, then I don't see where the delineation is from a "motorsports heritage" perspective.

Where I won't disagree is that I think if that's something that you think is important, then it's a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" thing. I wasn't really being all that facetious when I said you made the right choice if telling people you have a Type R is important to you.

But the other side of that, is that to many people the Type R is still just a Civic. In fact, for most people who don't know who Henry Catchpole is, they would probably default to thinking a base Integra A-spec is a "nicer car" than an FL5... not that any of this matters to people reading this thread, just bringing it up as a counterpoint.

Kinda reiterating, but in the end to Joe shmoe, a type R is just a civic and any old Integra looks like a nicer car. I can say with certainty that if you wanted a car that looks like a sports car to random on the street, you woulda gotten something besides an ITS or CTR (though the CTR looks more aggressive because of the wing)

Had both, type r is a great car but I’m 6’2” and those seats are horrible for my body type, anything more than 20 minutes and my legs would start aching and my back hated me. The type s is imho a significantly better looking car, better lines and suspension tuning is way better (easy fix for a type r) the seats could be a little softer but overall for a 45 minute commute they are way better for my legs and back than the type r seats are. The creature comforts are nice in the s and yes the sound system is significantly better than the type r’s is I mean way better but that shouldn’t be a reason to switch these cars are both spartan to say the least compared to European or even most cars in their price range. We all fanboyed out and got manual 6 speed hatches and we all spent way too much to get it, miss the old days.

In addition to all of the items egxflash mentioned, Acura put the Type S badge on an SUV so Type S as a whole is is now watered down marketing slop(not to take away from the DE5 specifically as it is an excellent car).

You go to a bar and mention you have a Type S and someone else will say "me too" and they will be talking about their SUV.

The Type R badge still has the meaning behind it.
"Type S" isn't "watered down", I don't think the "Type S" trim levels were ever supposed to have the same levity as Type R was with performance. Historically both Type R and Type S have been offered as different trim levels of the Integra at the same time, for example.

Type S is more akin to the "Si" badge in the Acura world. It is enhanced, sportier, more aggressive with additional sporty appearances but still with a focus on luxury. Type R is more track focused. Acura dropped the Type R badging altogether because they WANT it to be differentiated from the Type R "stigma". Acura is intended to be more "Sporty Luxury" and less "Luxury sport" anymore, and Honda has shifted the tuner sport niche to focus on Honda as a brand specifically.

This follows with the latest ITS, less performance focused seats, softer suspension tuning, no LogR integration, likely less downforce, a bit heavier. It isn't meant to "compete" with the CTR, IMHO. Acura will never try to compete with Honda, hence why they have completely dropped the Type R badging.

The argument I've always used is: real enthusiasts (in any car community, regardless of brand/model) will truly know the difference (and also appreciate said differences). The normies or joe schmoes of the word who aren't car enthusiasts truly don't care/know the difference. Given that the joe schmoes don't care, why should we (as car enthusiasts) care about what they think of X car we drive or what a badge denotes on said X car? It's moot at that point and talking to a brick wall.

This is also why I always debadge any car I own. I don't care to have a joe schmoe try to "argue" with me randomly out in public about what they think is right or isn't right about said car or trim level. Not to mention, it makes the bodywork look cleaner in general. Although, it has happened the other way - our FK8 has no rear badging (only the red H on either end), and some group of young kids maybe 18 thought the FK8 was a fake one because it didn't say Civic Type R on it, which pretty much proves my point of joe schmoes not knowing the real differences anyway.

But if you care what joe schmoes think, then I guess disregard the above :)

I actually really like the badging on the type R and ITS, would hate to remove them, at least on the case of the type R it looks cool (same for the Integra embossed thing up front).

Your point stands though, it shouldn't matter what others think of your car, just what you do. Man, what a great lesson to learn on a car forum that no one will ever take to heart 😁

I had an Si for 11 years so I was all about changing it up and getting an Acura, but the ITS had 2 things going against it for me. The rear trunk access is somewhat awkward with it being so high up. I carry lots of music equipment so trunk design is a big consideration for me. Next, the bolted on fender flare look didn't appeal to my taste.
