I’ve been looking at downpipes and have a few questions that I didn’t see covered on here.

Versus OEM, I see the “high flow catted” downpipes like Two Step Performance are making around 20hp more.

How much/would the RV6 “cat less” downpipe make anymore power vs the high flow?

Obviously the cat less is going to be freer flowing I would think. Has anyone compared the two?

How much of a sound difference is there between the high flow and catlesss do you think?

I would think that since the tsp catted downpipe goes to a 5" section for the cat that the flow would be very close or equal to a 3" straight noncatted downpipe. And it has the benefit of a no tune no cel straight bolt on. There's a video of one shop that Dyno tested a no cat DP and it made this over the stage 1 91 octane power metric tune.

Makes sense. So the best/most liked downpipe is still the TSP one correct?

Random thought, why didn’t PRL make a downpipe?

PRL made one for the FK8. It's been discontinued I believe. I can't say if the tsp is the most liked but I do have one on order. I like it bc it doesn't cause a cel so I can just install and go.

Would a fk8 PRL downpipe fit our FL5s?

According to some of the videos I've seen yes.

Are there any cons with going for a used downpipe vs new?
A used catted downpipe will just have “less mileage” on the cat itself. Other than some more wear and tear.

I have the TSP downpipe. I am not sure myself but I’ve heard that it is a copy of the discontinued PRL downpipe.

Less than a 2 HP difference. Get catted, it'll be a much better experience, not adding to the environment pollutants is also a bonus and should be a civic duty.

Would you say a front pipe is also a minimal difference too?

On this car I would say probably unless you've swapped turbos and added fuel. I can't see anything under 400-440 hp needed that upgraded, but I did it any way since it was part of my exhaust.

Pro-Tip:

The TSP High Efficiency Downpipe is the same design /components as the PRL High Volume Downpipe that was discontinued. Due to California emissions concerns (after they were bought out) they decided to stop making downpipes all together and allowed us to pick up where they left off.

I installed the TSP DP and PRL front pipe at the same time so I can't say for sure the front pipe makes this difference, but to me it seems like the front pipe really helps with sound. Like in cabin while driving I notice there is way more exhaust sound and new frequencies I can hear right under the floorboard which is awesome. I don't mean in a negative way at all either, like with throttle I can just hear the exhaust better and there is a SWEET new set of frequencies at like 4k rpm and beyond that I have been really enjoying.

You can sort of hear it a tiny bit in this video at like 3:28 and he has the front resonator delete like the DE5.

It's way more noticeable in car and the exhaust still isn't that loud externally but it sounds great in cabin imo. This difference could also just be the DP, but I think the front pipe helps amplyify the sound more and the stock fp seems a bit restrictive compared to the rest of the exhaust.
