Honda will almost certainly make a point to announce a final model year. They said nothing at all about the launch of the 2025 model other than a single sentence in the press release for the Hybrid Civic just mentioning the FL5 would remain in the lineup. The fact that they haven't said anything makes me think they plan to keep making this car for at least another model year. A black interior package would be a sad sendoff compared to an LE model. I really hope they go all out for a LE model and do something really special if this is going to be the final ICE-only Type R.
I think if they do a MY26, it'll just be the LE model. It'll be strange though because it won't be a model available in Japan potentially. Was the LE offered in Japan?
We'll at least see a facelifted 2026 at this point in the game. Honda just wouldn't pull the plug with zero announcement. Hell, VW announced the end of the 6MT more than a full year in advance.
I’ve been following creative trend, a Japanese blog.
Looks like the racing black edition is pure interior color/material change only (suade dash and door panels are cool, but I prefer something that’s easier to keep clean of so I’m okay with the current soft plastic trim)
And I think the full red interior is a big selling point of this gen, we haven’t seen full red seats and carpet since the EK9.
As for the auto dimming mirror and wireless charging pads and other stuff, we already got all these goodies in the Australian market spec just not the Bose speakers. So I think we are good.
Today he had an updated blog about the powertrain, we might see another +10hp increase for the farewell of the FL5.
He also mentioned the black package is only available to the existing orders for a quicker delivery time (since they are from a different supplier compared to the regular red ones). This is not a reopening of orders in the JDM, ie JDM orders will still be closed ever since Jan 2023, potentially until the last production run then Honda will announce the end of FL5 without a facelift. I personally don’t see a point giving it a facelift as this gen wouldn’t survive after the 2026 Japanese noise regulation are in place July 2026.
Here is the Creative Trend article. They speculate that a LHD version will be available before a JDM RHD and that this Racing Black package will be announced by Honda in January. It will cost $1M yen more than the standard FL5 which is a 20% increase. If that % holds this would be a $55k vehicle here in the US before you factor in ADM.
I suspect one of the limitations in straying too far from the donor car for a proper limited edition for global release is the increasing regulations that apply to new cars. Up the power and for some countries you'd need to get full emissions retesting done.
Not worth it for a small run and much easier to throw on lighter wheels, stickier tyres, remove weight and change colours like they did for the FK8.
