Hilarious! It’s not for everyone, but my invisibility goal was achieved. The FK8 got too much attention even in PMM + wing delete.

I like it! I also like your solution for covering the wing mount area.

For weight reduction fans, the OE FL5 wing weighs about 10.5 lbs, which is about 3 lbs lighter than the FK8 wing.

Not my thing but man, if the hatch was higher aka station wagon type R, it would have looked really freaking good.

I would pull the engine out now and then wire up a bunch of car batteries in series/parallel under the hood and see what she'll do! :dunno: You might need that wing back on there. :headbang:

At first I didn't like the wing and thought it made the car look like a 'speed racer' wanna be.... BUT it's grown on me and is part of the Honda vibe.

Still, it would be a sleeper to a degree without it. :dunno:
same here. i didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me. i was also looking for a wing delete kit.

A duckbill would be great, but at this point I'm just dying for someone with a 3d printer to sell some block off plates. My 12 year old does not like riding in the car because the wing is "too flashy". Of course I may have influenced this opinion.
Did you drive a Buick LeSabre before? I wouldnt be able to stop laughing if a 12 yr old said that to me, because i never would have thought a 12 yr old would say such a thing lol.
I think its just perfect, and goes with the other body mods that are only on the R, Coming from a '24 SI , i liked that wing, thought it was percfect for my style, BUT, its so sublte that once you know its there it just blends in way too well.
Im a average 44yr old, but I do like some flash and I do like most wings on most cars, to each their own when it comes to the stuff thats just a huge question of WHY.
98 civic in 00/01 everythijg is a super wing, in 99 i had a nice 3peice, rsx type s kept the small spoiler, never wanted to swap it to an aspec( i did the rest of the car aspec over time, wrx' i wanted the sti wing, just didnt feel right on a normal trim, Skyline with the short spoiler, si, and now the r, i only bought the one, so i love spoilers but i wont pay money for one haha
i realized my gummies kicked in about 3 sentences in...sorry about this,

For those who are interested, I just covered the wing mounts with black vinyl hand cut to blend into the hatch glass.
Meta can you explain how you did this more? What type of vynil did you use and where did you buy it? I don't get it, is it just a thin sheet of vynil or some sort of block of the stuff?

I want to neuter my type R also but I don't understand waht vynil you used.

  1. Order at least two 1 ft x 1 ft sheets of vinyl since each piece is 7 in x 11.5 in. I used black gloss 3M 2080 series from a store like Rvinyl on Amazon.
  2. Remove wing (see wing install videos). or
    • I recommend shoving a plastic bag into the hatch cavity before removing the wing bolts to prevent them from falling into the cavity if they slip off the socket.
  3. Clean the hatch.
  4. Cut out a sheet of translucent paper at least 12x8" (gift wrap or baking parchment) and place it over the corner of the hatch.
  5. Draw a shape on the paper you want the vinyl to look like. I attached the template I made for reference. With the 3M logo facing up, it is for the drivers side. You can print it out in actual size if your printer has a borderless 8.5x14" legal paper mode.
  6. Cut the template out.
  7. Trace the template's outline onto the backing of the vinyl to make the wrap for the driver side.
  8. Flip the template over and trace another outline on the back sheet of the vinyl to make the piece for the passenger side of the hatch.
  9. Cut the two vinyl pieces out.
  10. Clean the hatch area that will receive the vinyl with alcohol to promote adhesion.
  11. Squeegee the vinyl down to the hatch around the glass first and then stretch it over the wing support cavity and try to minimize wrinkle over the cavity.
  12. Apply heat gun or hair dryer over any wrinkles over the hatch cavity to shrink the wrap down.

Is the vinyl just floating over the hollow cavity? Or did you vinyl wrap the mounts? It's really hard to see in your photos.

The best way to so this would be to 3D print something that fits in the hole and bolts with some sort of gasket so water does not go in.
