Update 2: 25k miles, and the noise has started once again. No tracking or aggressive driving. Just the daily office run in heavy traffic in AZ. Very disappointed in this aspect of the car; my 2002 CR-V doesn't do this at all!

Mine is making the same squeak since 20k miles and now it's at 30k miles. All stock except non stock rear brake pads. Which since had them replaced @ 20k (stocks were donezo). it's been squeaking since I got it back. The dealership didn't resurface as they said it wasn't needed so....

I took it into another dealership and said it was because they're non Honda brake pads and has a higher metallic count or something. Waiting until I can buy the tool to do my own brakes and I'll get some from Honda to see what it does.

I can't believe I've been having this issue off and on for almost a year now. I took my car into a different Honda dealership (First Texas Honda) to address a check engine light, but I also had them look at the squeaking noise issue.

It turns out that my front right brake caliper was leaking brake fluid, and they said it was getting on the pad. They suspected that this was causing the squeaking.

I just picked the car up today... I'll report back later if this seemed to resolve the issue.

So what's the update? Also why is this an issue on the FL5? Aren't the brakes supposed to be better than everyday car brakes? I wouldn't expect them to be glazed (last time the dealer gave that reason before changing) or warped just because Arizona is hot and it can't handle stop and go traffic.........this is so disappointing and frustrating tbh.

Update - front wheel(s) are still squeaking, but now I'm having a slightly different symptom. Before, I'd have to drive around for a while before the squeaking started. Now, the squeaking starts immediately when I start driving, and it seems to lessen the longer I drive.

I plan on taking it back to the same dealership again soon.

Any update? Iam having this issue on both rear wheels, did they rule out wheel bearings ?

I was due for new front pads, so I had those replaced on my last visit along with rotor resurfacing. The squeaking stopped for a few days, then came back again. It seems intermittent now.

They didn't mention wheel bearings during any of the appointments.

They resurfaced the front rotors for you?The dealership I took it to the last time told me they can't resurface two piece rotors and I called BS and I guess it was BS after all.

I took my car to the dealership again, and this time they noticed scratch (I think he called it "chatter") marks on the rear rotors:

I had to get new rear rotors since there wasn't enough of them left after the previous resurfacing. I've been driving around for several days now, and the squeaking is completely gone.

I believe I had two completely separate low-speed wheel squeaking issues which are now resolved:
  1. Original squeaking issue would happen only after driving around for a while. Something was leaking brake fluid onto the pads, and after fixing the leak, the issue was resolved. My front pads also got replaced (normal wear & tear). More info here.
  2. The second squeaking issue I'd hear right away when I first start driving. This was caused by the chatter marks on the rear rotors, and replacing the rotors fixed the issue.

Just came through a similar issue on my FL5. Ballpark 8800 miles and all of a sudden screeching noise from the front right wheel like metal-on-metal death sounds. Primarily at low speeds but also noticeable up to ~50mph.

Intensity of sound was variable. Took to dealer to assess.

Didn’t take long. Diagnosis was “caused by small rocks behind the rotors wedged in the backing plate.”

Asked if there was anything to prevent this. Answer was no. Also of note they pulled rocks from all four wheels.

Don’t have any positive notes here. Just something to watch. I’m a little worried about this repeating over time…

Update 3: resurfaced rear rotors and changed rear pads. Sound gone. My assumption is that the rears are wearing out much faster than the fronts and causing that noise. Did speak to a couple of owners I met at a show and they confirmed that changing rear pads helped for some time. I guess a resurface would help keep them quieter for longer.

Yes, they do, on both the FK8 and FL5.
In my experience the fronts last at least twice as long as the rears. Fortunately, the rears are cheap and easy to change.

Update 4: Rear rotors started squealing again after a car wash. Guess I should've waited longer for the brakes to cool off before washing the car, but it wasn't as if I was back from a track day or even an enthusiastic driving session..... just on the way back home from the office. Arizona temps though.............I have learnt to ignore the squeal at this point. Just plain disappointed with this aspect of the car.

Mine was diagnosed to be a wheel bearing by a shop. I was under the impression that the noise would appear as the speed increased when the wheel bearing goes out, but he pointed out to me that it's not uncommon for these to be defective from factory. As to why we sometimes hear the noise after driving around, he stated that when the bearings start to heat up after heat cycling the grease loosens up and thus creates the squealing noise that some of us are experiencing.

I had this issue 1500 miles in, they thought initially it was a rock lodged in somewhere. However after they got it on the lift and ruled that out they moved forward with replacing the rear rotors and pads. Now at 7600 miles the issue has reoccurred. Does anyone have any ideas?
