I don't mean to be rude but it sounds like you just want us to confirm it's all fine, but we can't. The car overev'd and stored a code. Get it inspected and compression/leakdown tested.

It's the only way to know for sure.

I don’t think you’re being rude. It’ll go in next week for an oil change and compression/leak down.

As the thread went on and I was driving around, put about 100miles on, I started to question that “knock” because several other threads who didn’t money shift have the same sound. That and the car drives fine and isn’t throwing CELs.

In my experience, if the motor doesn’t self delete after a bad shift, you’re “usually” fine.

Update:

Been driving it all night. Boosts fine, pulls hard all the through power band, again no CEL, and the knocking noise is something I’ve seen all over.

Starting to think I’m fine. I’ll likely have a compression test done when the oil gets changed.
from most over-rev failures i've seen....the engine seems fine right after then blows up after a few thousand miles. I'd change the oil and use an obd adapter to monitor engine parameters like knock control. and sometimes it's completely fine. how high of RPMs did the engine get to? This is a good reason to always use data logging.

Sounds pretty normal to me, that sounds is the hpfp and the injectors, other than that everything should be fine.

Not sure what 72-73mph in 2nd would be. My guess is anywhere from 7800-8300/8400

Wanted to ask you about compression/leak down test. It’s getting both next week, if it comes back good, am I 100% in the clear?

I’ve heard one off stories of bent rods that weren’t bent enough to throw codes or fail compression tests. I suppose if it’s not bent enough to throw codes or fail tests…then is it really bent? Lol just wanted your opinion

Thanks to everyone for chiming in.

with an over-rev I'd be more worried about a bent valve or busted valve spring than bottom end issues.

How did you scan the code for the over-rev? Does it show it on the system computer? and what Scanner did you use?

Thinking of getting a used FK8 and assuming the process would be similar.

Used an Autel AP200, ordered off Amazon.

Downloaded the app, there’s a couple you need, then it just plugs into the OBD2 and it’s all automated through the apps

Sorry for asking so many questions. Just the first person to reply lol With real experience.

Do I need to search out the apps? Is there a list or when I get the scanner it kinda guides me?

Thanks for the information and hopefully this chat buzz up more input on your problem.

You just need to scan the computer for engine codes. It's a permanent code you can't clear.

I would say if it holds compression and leakdown you are fine. Worst case when you get an oil change, carefully cut open the filter and see if it captured any metal sparkles.

Oh you’re good man lol

Here’s the video I used to set it up, you can kinda just scrub to the important parts. And yeah J_D is right, cannot clear over rev.
