Sadly I am not. but for reference I am a size 12 and i use the foot rollover method since I cannot tweak my heel over like the real drivers can.
Dang. Maybe go to the dealer and sit in one? I also use the edge of the right side of my foot too. I figure if I can do it so could U. You being size 12 and all? But to make sure, go sit in one?

or try a Acura dealer and try the type s if Acura is closer to your home? Same pedal placement

May I ask what size shoe you wear? Not trying to make this a sex thing bro šŸ˜‚
lol, I am size 11.5.

I will admit I am not the best hell Toe-er around but had no issues on my last 2 cars but on the civic although I can do it its not the most pleasant car to do so.

That’s fair. The m2 pedal placement for me was amazing. Not the current m2 but the previous one. Right when the front bumper became controversial.

I’m also not great at it. Really depends what shoes I’m wearing too.

edit: called this cat from wiwi transmission in Miami Florida. Then I called a friend who literally owns his own shop and does side work for pfi on occasion

they both told me that is not how transmissions work. Once in neutral with the pedal out. The synchros aren’t engaged or stressed. Except they said it in Spanish.
If that was their response, you explained it incompletely or incorrectly, or they aren't the experts you believe them to be.
  • Car in neutral, clutch out, rolling at 30mph:
    • Input shaft speed: 800rpm (same as engine idle.)
    • Input shaft speed needed to engage 2nd gear: 3338rpm (tires 411rpm @ 30mph, multiplied by 3.84 final drive ratio, multiplied by 2.115 second gear ratio.)
How does the input shaft get from 800rpm to 3338rpm so you can select second gear?

Magic? Since you/they claim the synchronizer isn't used.

Hint: it's the synchronizer. The synchronizer synchronizes the input shaft from 800rpm to 3338rpm so you don't get a grind trying to go into second gear.

i swear man. Some Honda people can be so full of shit.
In the future, to avoid looking the way you do, maybe understand how transmissions work before going on the internet and vomiting words into it.

I literally explained it in three different scenarios, one of them being that same one. In case I was slowing down in neutral and the light turned green. Thusly forcing me to engage second. You’re acting like revving up a synchro like that can break it or cause damage. Revmatch the shift or use auto rev match and the synchro will literally be fine.

look. U go that way. I go this way. Block me if U want. And we both shut the fuck up about it. U don’t know what you’re talking about and that’s ok. Unless your synchros are personally made of glass?

plz have a good day. I will not be engaging with U any longer and I will go off of the advice given to me by the guy that has been building transmissions for over 18 years and the other guy that is somehow building 9 second cars in my elevation.

so I’ll be going to my corner now. You plz do the same.

Either explain how I'm wrong or admit you think that magic is what gets your input shaft from 800 rpm to 3338 rpm when you go from neutral to second gear at 30 mph.

I'm not the one here who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Yes, huge jumps in RPM cause more wear than small jumps in RPM. It's not linear, either.

they both told me that is not how transmissions work. Once in neutral with the pedal out. The synchros aren’t engaged or stressed.
The absolute comedy.

I'm sorry everyone, I just wanted to point out that holding the clutch was a bad idea since it damages the throw out bearing because that's what I was always taught learning how to drive stick. Same for the shifting to first. Both of which I learned on this forum.

I'm the bad guy 😭😭😭😭

Well, people are in this thread arguing that downshifting to first in this car is bad for the synchro and shifting into gear from neutral while rolling isn't.

This is at minimum an inversion of the truth, since the first scenario requires the synchronizer to do far less work than the second one.

800 rpm difference the synchro has to make up for downshifting from second to first at 10 mph.

2,538 rpm difference the synchro has to make up for shifting from neutral to second at 30 mph.

Just another example where conventional wisdom is outdated or flat-out false. And another example of people regurgitating things they've heard from friends instead of taking the time to actually understand how things work.

@Spart brought math to an opinion fight šŸ˜‚
Neutral → gear while rolling isn’t ā€œfreeā€ — the synchro is literally what makes it possible without grinding. It’s in the name, synchronizer.

Laughs and bickering aside, this is as a good discussion because it brought together a few different perspectives and now we can align. I definitely learned something and the explanation of underlying reasons helps me to better understand my car.

anywho
Size 13 wide here and I can’t heel toe to save my life. I watched that video of homeboy in the NSX and I’ve tried it similar to that before but I end up mashing the brake pedal more than the gas. There is no room for my feet to move. It seems like with practice that transition could get smoother but I don’t feel like I can actually do a successful down shift to build my confidence to keep trying. The I saw I wasn’t the only one and my will left the chat.

Does the Acuity pedal modification make this transition easier for anyone who has similarly sized hobbit feet? Or do I just need to git gud?

Not against auto-rev but I agree with the sentiment I got a manual to be engaged in driving — though I def see the times where maybe you just ain’t about it! So it’s a convenient feature to have, at the very least.

How long have you been trying? I think when we all started practicing the technique, we all definitely ended up mashing the brake pedal while blipping the throttle. Just takes time and lots of practice and lots of failed attempts. :confused1: I'm by no means a pro at it but can do it and do it often. Kind of 2nd nature now. If you keep at it, you'll get there. I'm sure it didn't come to many of us overnight. It didn't for me that's for sure. Keep at it!

uhhhhh when I buy a video game I expect to master it the same day if that tells you anything 🤣

But nah, practice makes perfect, it’s just the feeling that something is inherently wrong with my technique. Like trying to do a crossover in basketball but instead of dribbling youre just hammering at the ball with your fists…or something. Maybe I should try with thinner shoes but my dogs start BARKIN
