I found it easier to remove the wire connectors with the telematics module partially removed, so I just left it out entirely. My '24 gets 3 years of free GPS updates, so I'll plug it back in for a few minutes before that expires.

Help me understand why the complete removal of the TCU? Is it for weight savings?
It is also the source of a rattle and it is very simple to remove. Really no compelling reason to keep it.

Amazing thread. I will be disconnecting mine soon. I’m using Quad Lock Wireless for Apple Play because the one inside the car sucks. It gets disconnected every now and then, and I don’t want to have my phone connected to charge every time.

I am also experiencing the disconnections. sometimes it will reconnect again in a few seconds, sometimes multiple disconnect/reconnect in a short while, sometimes it will remain disconnected until I turn the ignition off and on.

My phone is usually in my pocket, I do not have to use a USB cable for the Apple Play to work.

Yet even when I use USB cable to charge my phone, it still gets disconnected.

So far, I haven’t had any issues with it. I also changed the setting in the system menu by pressing the home button, power, and left skip to make it wired only. The Quad Lock has a stable connection. I tried two from Amazon, and they caused the same issue. It was probably the one I got, but this one is stable, though pricey.

Have you disabled the onboard navigation? This helped my disconnects.

There is a small button on the charge mat that you can press to turn off charging.
I don’t use the charge pad; the wireless CarPlay is unreliable, that’s why I got the Quadlock. The wired have the phone constantly charging.

Thanks, I changed to wired only, tested connectivity, and will report back after my next long drive.

My favorite Honorary Texan from Brooklyn, Louis Rossmann, put out this banger on April 7th...

Louis Rossmann : Ford patents lip reading & emotion detection inside the car .

Isn't this timeline great?

OK, first of all, this guy rules! I’ll be checking out his YouTube channel.

Second, WTFingF?! Lip reading software?!

Third, my next car will be no newer than 2010. And I’m replacing my iPhone with a rotary phone.

Mobile backpack rotary phone! ... Or maybe a hip mount pelvic harness, with the phone on one side and the equal size and weight lead battery pack on the other (a motorcycle battery, essentially)....?
I think I'd be good with that, these days.

Yeah, Louis Rossmann is pretty awesome. Dude's videos hit hard.

I think we're probably good with cars up to about 2015, 2016.
I think it's after 2017 when the US mandated rear camera rule happened.
By the way, What The Fweck, US Gov't??? ... You did not even ask my permission to do that to me. I would have told you Hell No. If we shouldn't be touching screens on our phones, we shouldn't be touching any screens anywhere in our vehicles! Ya dumb Câ– NTS!!!

I didn't even know that was a thing until after I bought my 2025 Type R, and was wondering why every car ever now has a friggin touchscreen, no matter what.
Yeah, not cool, US Gov't.

Not cool.

To hell with all this Big Brother crap. I’m building a Flux Capacitor, and I’m out. Wait till they see the FL5 in 1960!
