I have a thread with a bunch of theft deterrents. Clubs, faraday pouch, OBD blocker, and kill switch (any is better than none), etc. If you street park, you must layer some security. I also remove my shifter stalk as I have a aftermarket shifter.

There’s been a handful of attempts on my car this summer alone. They pop my door lock, and then try to program a key through the OBD port. They’ve been unsuccessful so far.

I also got a cheap wifi video doorbell camera that rings my phone with a critical notification when it detects a person. That’s what happened last time and I was able to chase them away. Dumb idea, as they could also be armed, but it hasn’t happened since.

Good Lord man, multiple attempts? Where do you live that it's that bad? Again, I know most people can't afford to just up and move, but if your car almost gets stolen that much, the area can't be safe either, no?

Nice neighborhoods are not safe either, unless maybe they’re gated. These dudes spread out and scour around, stealing whatever they can that’s in sight.

Around bad areas yes. My part of town, not a one reported stolen.

Yeah, I think if you're in a city or a metropolitan area that has nice parts and bad parts, that the likely hood of crime is higher in general. I just know if I had someone try to break into my car more than once id seriously consider a major change.

Yep. Of course, it really depends on the city and one’s proximity to sketchy areas.

Relocate to a better area if possible. If they're committing these crimes so boldly, chances are your house will get broken into as well eventually.

I'm not so sure 'nice' matters much.
I had things stolen from my car in a nice area of Santa Barbara, CA.
The other time, I was parked literally by the front entrance of MIT on Mass. Ave. in Cambridge, MA.

In both cases, the cars were BMWs. Maybe that explains something.

Relocate to a better area if possible. If they're committing these crimes so boldly, chances are your house will get broken into as well eventually.

It doesn't matter where you're relocating to, although that would reduce your chance of it getting stolen if and when parked inside your locked garage when you're home. However, if you daily drive the car or go anywhere, you're going to park the car somewhere that will expose it to the possibility of theft.

This has been one of my biggest fears for the longest time. So much so that I just avoid any sketchy area altogether. Even if someone doesn't steal the car, you never know if they'll try to damage it. People genuinely don't care for others stuff, so better to avoid that situation in the first place.

Some people are jealous of what others have. So much so that they would destroy it.

I wouldn't daily this car if I didn't garage it and park in key card access only lots with security guards and surveillance when I go into the office

Yeah. It’s difficult to not be at least a little bit paranoid these days, which adds another layer of unnecessary stress (on top of “normal” stress). Cars that are more vulnerable to theft than ever + high levels of societal discontent (especially in cities) = more damaged and stolen cars. It’s a perfect storm and it really sucks on so many levels. It probably isn’t going to get better any time soon, so all we can do is try to protect ourselves and our property…or just drive Chameleon XLEs.

None stolen in my area. I'd say it matters. Much like breaking and entering, none. Other areas all the time. Yeah statistics matter.

Same here. I am not in the most expensive town in my area, but I don't live close to the highway and there is a decent police presence. I also have a few nice towns between my town and the ghetto, er.. towns where the criminals come from. I also have a big loud dog who doesn't take kindly to anyone coming onto the property uninvited.
