"502whp and counting" makes for a catchy headline but this build is not about simply making the most power possible. Here at Two Step Performance we invest into research and development so that we can make educated recommendations to our customers. We believe that while most anyone can sell car parts on the internet, there is a lot of value in being hands on with the parts you are selling. This FL5 build is one of many factory turbocharged Hondas we have built over the years. The data we gathered has been invaluable. While it takes quite an investment of both time and money, we have had a lot of fun along the way and won't be stopping anytime soon.

Anytime we build a shop vehicle at Two Step Performance, we try to do things that are very accessible to the everyday owner and tend to not stray into the more exotic modifications that some would could consider cost prohibitive, too risky, or just not worth the trouble. No methanol injection, no nitrous, no $10,000 standalone ECU systems. Never say never, but we realize that those things just don't resonate with our customer base for the most part and tend to avoid them. Are they great options for some people? Absolutely.

All that being said, please see below for details on our FL5. I could spend all day writing on this, but I will provide the basic facts for now and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

I will begin with a dyno plot that shows our testing of our unmodified FL5, vs how the car is today:

Would love to see a roll race between stock FL5 and your monster FL5. Maybe starting from 60mph. It’ll help to put in perspective the HP change.

That would be cool to do! We'll have to check into the logistics of that. 🤔

Ok besides what you listed that dont make hp...what were the three things that gave you the most power gains? Turbo,(air),tune, and what the security screws on the spoiler?lololololol

The turbocharger is the biggest power adder by far. The downpipe and intercooler are important supporting mods. With those in place with solid custom tune you are going to easily make 420+ whp on 93, maybe more depending on the fuel system. From there you can use the Hondata fuel system to add more capacity to the system and then begin using an ethanol blend. With E30 we were able to take it past 500whp.

Can the Hondata fuel system support full E85 ? I'm lazy and don't got time to be blending ethanol at the gas station 😂

Our limiting factor at 502whp was fuel system capacity. I am sure the system can handle E85 but it is likely going to limit your gains elsewhere.

This is my first turbo car. When you upgrade the turbo for the big power gains, I assume the tradeoff is that it takes longer to spool so you miss a lot of that low/mid range in exchange for much more pull at full boost? Is that correct?

One of the things I really enjoy about the CTR is the low end torque and ability to put you back in your seat and explode out of corners. Is this something you won't get with a bigger turbo?

This appears to make as much torque as the stock motor everywhere, which is why it's so cool.

Nearly identical spool time too. That torque in the midrange all the way til 7000rpm must feel real nice.

This is a great point but I will share something here... keep in mind this is an unmodified FL5 vs where it is today.

If you modify the car with the stock turbo, such as using our TSP Stage 1 Tune for the FL5, there is a large spike of low end / mid range torque available. However, we much prefer the extra horsepower up top.

11th Gen Honda Civic TSP FL5 - 502whp and counting [2023 Honda Civic Type R Tuned & Modified] 1687986341639

This chart shows a basic bolt on car (downpipe, exhaust, drop in air filter) with the factory tune vs our TSP Stage 1 Tune.
