This ^^^? Same scenario for me. There arenāt any good NEW 4-door manual cars in the $40-$50k range that are light and with playful handling/suspension since all of the Germans left manuals behind in this price range. 2-door, yes there are options and GR86/BRZ is best dollar value for a fun to drive car. I too seriously considered a CT4 V Blackwing but it isnāt compelling enough to spend $70k w/ TTL let alone the expected depreciation that will be realized in 4 years. Used M2 is in the price range of the new Civic Type R but itās two door, less practical and more expensive to fix as well as BMW being unreliable. MSRP is a great price for the Type R and now that it looks more clean even low $50k is okay considering the options.it's definitely NOT a gas station drip coffee ... i admit i did pay some ADM on my GT4 this year, BUT the percentage over was justifiable consideirng it's possibly the last generation naturally aspirated 6 speed GT4; caused me significant emotional pain though. GT4 allocations are still really hard to come by even though the cars have been out for a while so i thought i might lose my opportunity to order a new unit. i'm hoping the CTR production meets demand enough to keep the ADMs down because i remember lusting after a $40k car ('09 STi) and barely being able to afford it... if i had gone in and they told me to cough up another 50% it would be a no-go. Many folks are expecting to finance these cars but to dig $10-20k out of savings just to bring the price down enough to get financing is a shame for the budding enthusiast community. the market is what it is.
also, this effects me because getting this car is contingent on me getting it at MSRP to keep my wife happy. happy wife, happy life. she's let me go through quite a few cars over the years and if I'm getting another toy car, it's gotta be MSRP lol. rules are rules.
i think the *problem* with the CTR is that as an overall package, it offers enough to demand the higher price. I had a '22 Si and the interior is really well laid out with good infotainment/sound for the price (heads and shoulders above the GR86 i had) ... it offers a lot of utility and a ton of performance. as a family man, this car really is a FWD alternative to the M3, Blackwing, RS5. Getting those cars new at MSRP is hard enough and many are knocking on $100k. For under $100k, there's not a lot that realy competes with the CTR if you want: manual, performance, utility. you can do better if you only want performance (SS1LE), or utility (take your pick). I do think if the CTR were to really stay priced at $70k (don't expect it to) .. i think some people would rather get two cars with that same money... say an HRV and SS1LE.. . Have a total animal performance vehicle with a stick and track worthy and something really practical.
If the ADMs stay sky-high then i'll probably pursue another Si as my fun DD because it offers most of what i need out of the car (fun, manual, interior features, practicality - although i'd miss the hatch) for a lot less scratch.
i'm a rambler ... when you can brew inexpensive espresso at home, you drink a lot more of it ....
