Exhaust shops near me don’t want to do the work because they don’t know the reasoning behind it, as they do the Hellcats and all that but will not touch the FL5. I really don’t want a down pipe, and I don’t want to deal with the hassle of the studs breaking off 😂.

Honestly there's plenty of shops that'll do it. The hardest part is finding one where they weld correctly.

I agree with the downpipe and that is the only reason I would pay to have someone to sell it and run the local money shops so I don't have to deal with the broken stud lol

HKS is bringing another SS exhaust to the market with a triple tip valved option. The below information is from the placard in the photo.
  • By adopting three 110mm/4.33" STM tail pipes, the design retains the stock appearance while delivering a powerful and dynamic rear view.
  • A large-diameter valve reduces drone during normal driving while delivering a racy sound at high RPM
  • A straight-through 74.7mm/3" front pipe significantly reduces exhaust resistance and expands tuning potential.
The photos are from TAS.

Look nice, sound good too. Hope isn’t with an external motor or something in that realm. I don’t think so, but on their wording, that’s how I understood the sentence 🤣. The tips don’t look bad at all now. It is the part that will make it or break it. They don’t ask 8k for it plus all the tariff and throw on there a year or five to wait for it.

Weight-wise, I don’t mind because I won’t feel any different if I weigh less than the OEM or more. The remote also doesn’t affect me; I wasn’t planning on using it regardless because I want to get as close to stock as possible. That’s why I suggested and looked into the Balled exhaust. I don’t want to be obnoxious. With the Hybrid, I retain the OEM motor, but with the other, I need something to avoid the soft check engine light. I already bought it just in case something else comes up, but so far, Hybrid racing is the winning option. However, there aren’t many sound clips available inside the cabin, and all the ones I found are just a minute long.
I’ll get on the interior clips as soon as I get my FL5 out of winter storage in 2 months 🙏🏽

Still a huge fan of it, both with and without Downpipe as well as FP if the minor bump counts - it was the last exhaust setup on my FK8 (turboback), and first setup on my FL5 (catback only). Importantly, the only setup my wife tolerated being in the FK8 with me on long drives.

This season the plan is to test exhausts monthly if we can as I want more seat time with each setup, so my reviews here and in videos are even more accurate for you guys

Love HKS but this one’s too loud and raspy for daily driving. It reminds me of MBRP non-resonated with a downpipe

I have to agree, it probably does sound better in person but on that video sounds aweful

I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on the resonated valved Milltek, had one on my Golf R and was really happy with it. <- this sounds really nice. I would love to go with something JDM but hard to find one that is 3" and sounds good (not raspy).

I’m old as fuck dude. I remember when the 8th gen came out. “The k engine sounds like shit. The b engine sounds better. Why would Honda do this”

I don’t think we as a community will ever be happy 😂

I had a type s and eventually traded in for the 8th gen si when the 4 door released. Since Florida had no emissions I immediately went 4-1 headers, cat delete and custom mandrel bent 3” exhaust+ tune. IMO it sounded glorious. The b engine purists disagreed tho. That’s ok. Everyone can have an opinion.

I think out of the box the type r sounds like shit. Its induction sounds are nice, the exhaust note sucks and that fake engine noise is gross. I don’t understand why does the type s get a slightly nicer sounding exhaust with way better real engine sounds pumped into the cabin and the r doesn’t. Mind boggling. And for folks that track, the fake engine sounds are important. I get that. But it could’ve just ran with the type s’s method. Having the extra mic/knock sensors transmit the current sound into the cabin.

but with a little money + the type s pops + tuning so the rear valve works like the type s’s. It’ll sound nice enough. IMO. My neighbor has a fl5 set up this way with the apexi. Sounds great. Other neighbor kept the stock exhaust, dual resonators and all but did swap to the tsp dp and swapped front pipe too iirc? He’s also tuned with the type s pops and his rear valve was tweaked to work like the type s’s. Sounds good too.

I’m on stock dp. Stock tune. Invidia q300 (always loved the q300 muffler sounds. Always) but removed the resonator for a megaphone. I think my type s sounds pretty good. I’m definitely happy with it

I think the problem with how things are seen lie with us. The old mother fuckers. Our expectations are unrealistic 😂 Bro go ask a 20 year old to name the best top 3 rappers ever. You’ll see what I mean. If you’re disgusted by his answer, you may also be an old mother fucker 😂

Hhahaha....yeah, I had a 91 Si hatch (heavily built 1.6) ran a non resonated Thermal R&D system that was SOOOO loud the starter at the Sunday Auto-x Event covered his ears. I would push it down the street early on sunday morning and start it no where near my neighbors because it was that loud. And it was glorious!

The 07 Si sedan sounded amazing with some Apexi exhaust at the time, deep and mellow....

And now I strive for....something?!

@track.n.trail 's car!
I would probably ditch the burbles, but besides that, its one of the best sounding ones I've seen that retains the triple exhaust look and factory valve.

I am enjoying my milltek so far but installed basically 2 weeks or so before car has been put away for winter.

Mine is non res and its definitely loud. Stock DP.
With the valve open it drones a bit so i bought the miltek remote which is quite nice, close the valve in +R and drones very little and sounds the best. I need only had the exhaust for like 2 or 3 weeks before the car was put away for winter so jury still out if I leave it with the non res pipe or install the res mid pipe.

It’s a nice option too. The resonated one. The only thing that is rare is the clamp connection, but I don’t think it will come loose so quickly. Probably down the line, they can adapt flanges to fix that issue. And on the Unity performance website, they give options on the tips to have it look like the OEM too. Because they give another option on the website but it is really crappy to get an option on it at least on the cellphone.

I bought it used from someone here (the man that has had every exhaust for this platform, God bless him and the exhaust was in mint condition, thanks Mike!) and the tips were the black cerakote ones, if I had the choice I woulda have gone for chrome tips for more "OEM". I will say this, the fitment of the tips is absolutely perfect and you can slide em in and out more per preference which is why I decided on this exhaust (took a while). I do think for most the resonated pipe will be better and I may put it on at some point, the exhaust came with both.
As far as the clamps, there are many opinions on these. I too was the opinion that has to be bolts and flanges but as a friend mentioned it to me, there are euro cars that come from the factory with clamps, hell, my previews car was an M2 and every exhaust for it was an exhaust that used clamps so I don't worry about it. Maybe once a season I get under there and make sure everything is tight, no big deal for me.

😂
He also sold me my Milltek exhaust, but I got chrome tips and resonated/non resonated pipe with it.
