Curiosity got the best of me so I sent one of our flat-bottom wheels to SWEIDIT, and we're doing a one-off for my FL5. Aaron/his team stripped off the existing leather and stitching, and then we decided to add perforated napa leather sides, alcantara top and bottom with a blue ring, and deviated blue, grey, black stitching.

Can't wait to hold this in my hands! We're thinking of offering some level of customization through the website, but mostly would recommend SWEIDIT to anyone who wants to get carried away and have a one-off Unity Steering Wheel for less than the cost of the large brand name wheel. Ps. our cores are the same as the large brand names.

Am about 1000 miles into the chassis mods and car feels great. Surprisingly the change in NVH is pretty much unnoticeable most of the time. Wish I had the luxury of doing one change at a time as it is hard to know the overall contribution from the dampers vs collars. I may be late to the fl5 party but can’t stress how great a daily it is plus easily fits two car seats in the back. Hoping to add a Fujitsubo exhaust and downsize to 18 inch Advan GT’s at some point over the next year or so. Can’t wait to see the custom steering wheel installed in your car, looks very classy with just a hint of blue to match the wrap.

I'm trying to do one change at a time with the FL5 - thankful that so many FL5/DE5 owners reach out for advice so it's better for me to experience each change and comment on that specifically. I will end up getting those dampers sometime, just dragging my heels for now.

"I may be late to the fl5 party but can’t stress how great a daily it is plus easily fits two car seats in the back."

I ruined the FK8 for my spouse by making it too hardcore - she has no hope I won't do the same this time around with the FL5. She does cave in eventually, and it's not like I can't just swap the baby seat over from the daily, and take our daughter to all the Cars n Coffee this summer to illustrate my point 😁

Alright, this one's reaaaally stretching the meaning of "dad build" - more like young, single and making irresponsible financial decisions. I'm too used to paying $1000/set for all the Superspeed wheels I've had in the past. I was sweating paying that amount for just a single wheel x 4 when it came to these. Always wanted a set however, and my guys at the shop twisted my arm behind my back to pull the trigger...

Rays ZE40 M-Spec "God Spec" in 19x10 +40. Big thanks to @lmtlsauto for the hook up!

I've been going back and forth with tire sizes, and the tire to run. Ideally the tire would be the Continental ECS02, a favorite of mine for several years now. However, Firestone is just rolling out the V2 Indy500, and I'm tempted to try it out as they state improve wet performance, sharper response, and overall stability. Tire rack does state they're 8/32 depth, which is lower than the 10/32 found with the Conti, and they're 2-3lbs heavier per tire versus the Conti. They are $60-80 USD cheaper per tire however..

In terms of the tire size, I've compared 4 different sizes against what I already run (18x10.5 +47 with 285/35R18 Conti DWS06+) rather than the factory setup, since I know we can already stuff this much meat under the fender without any rub. I'm running H&R Springs for reference, they've lowered the ride height by 20mm

265/30 - 7mm shorter than current setup
265/35 - 6mm taller than current setup
275/30 - 5mm shorter than current setup
285/30 - 3mm shorter than current setup

I'm leaning toward 275/30 since I'm lowered. I'm hoping that's the right choice. Feel free to chime in

You know this already but across brands a 275/30 spec tire may have slightly different overall dimensions. Can make things frustrating if you're particular about the look you want.

Can't wait to see these on the car. I am envious!!!

Correct, one brand’s 265 can be another’s 275, and vice versa. I’ve pretty much settled on the 275/30, and since I’ve had two sets of ECS02 + one set of DWS06+, I’ll likely go ahead and try out the Indy 500 V2 to see how they compare. I’ve had the original Indy 500’s years ago as well and I remember them being good in the dry, mild in the wet.

Don’t be envious, you can sleep knowing your wallet is full 🥹

The pièce de résistance of this whole look that I’m going for has arrived!

We got a second set of Brembos powdercoated in a Titanium Matte Grey finish, with the Brembo logo engraved by a 5-axis CNC. We carried over the font used for Brembo brakes on motorcycle applications as there’s just this old school charm to it, and something cool I learned is that the “e” resembles a helmet. To top it off the logo is finished in Mag Blue. The rear calipers and brackets have also been paint matched.

I’m dying to see this come to fruition, we’ll start working on the car more as spring weather draws closer. I’m pretty thrilled with the progress so far as more and more pieces come together!

What do you guys think? :)

Wheel arrived from Sweidit! Thrilled with the final outcome, it’s really going to elevate the interior 😍

Aaron usually does 0-15% thicker than OEM - I requested 20% as this is our Unity Performance Flat Bottom Steering Wheel that was used as a base and the rim is a hair thinner than OEM. 20% would be the max I’d recommend since I was purposely going for the “plush” feel.

Spring’s here, and the build season is moving fast. First up: the Cusco wing risers.

I’ll be honest—they’re pricey for what they are. But the quality and finish are spot on, and the look makes it worth it. Plus, they hold value well, so if I decide to move on from them later, I should be able to recover a good portion of the cost.

The raised OEM wing setup looks incredible now. Next step is dialing in the front end—on the hunt for a lip to balance out the rear aero and tie the whole look together.

An EVS tuning front lip with the functional splitter should balance it out nicely while providing a good aero advantage. Might be a tad low though

I settled on the tires and tire size for the 19x10 +40 ZE40!

265/35R19 Continental ECS 02

Thankfully no rub in any instance so far, and the ride quality hasn’t been impacted with the move to 19’s.

That's definitely one of my favorite combos, but the price (even if there is some wiggle room for a shop) is daunting for a part that stick right up at the front of the car and sits very low. Believe me I've been on that product page many times 😅
