Yeah agree to disagree.

I said " For all effective purposes, SS blows Hondas actual requirements out of the water since it is a great oil for DI turbo engines."
I was directly quoting your post. Now you're just straight-up lying.

I think you may have misunderstood, I quoted myself and responded to the part you quoted below that with the SN part.

Also, pretty neat that Amsoil claims this in relation to signature series and more:
"AMSOIL synthetic motor oils meet or exceed the latest industry standards, including ILSAC GF-6, API SP, GM dexos1 Gen 2 and Gen 3, and dexos R. You can safely use our synthetic motor oils in engines that call for any of these specifications."

https://blog.amsoil.com/gm-dexos-mo... oils meet or exceed,2 and Gen 3, and dexos R.

I'm sure you're gonna love that.

Amsoil has long been known for using weasel words to imply they are licensed by API (as well as various manufacturers) when they actually aren't.

Of all their oil weights, they have a number of API licenses for the various 0W-20's.

Signature Series is not one of them.

This is straight from the API website:

Yeah they're not saying those products are licensed, but claim they meet or exceed the requirements. They want to keep their additives/formulas proprietary. " The lubricant formulas from AMSOIL INC. are unique and proprietary. "

https://www.thebestoil.com/resources/amsoil-and-api-licensing/

Similar to with Dexos you have to submit the entire formula to GM to get the cert, so some good oils, or in certain viscosity grades, won't have the cert because you have to pay and submit information to them. It is a business afterall.

The part I highlighted in bold is especially rich.

GM maintains a database of dexos licensed oils.

Guess who has exactly zero dexos licensed oils? Amsoil.

I got a jug of oil for sale.

I wrote on it: meets or exceeds API SQ, SR, and ST. Meets or exceeds dexos 5, 7, and 33.

$100 OBO.

Same exact credibility as Amsoil.

So are we worried that Amsoil is doing something with signature series specifically that will end up causing warranty issues and hurting engines, when they also make a good amount of oils that are API certified that you posted above? I haven't seen anything related to that.

If warranty wasn't in play, and the cost proposition was better, I would run Amsoil Signature Series. It isn't bad. It's just expensive when cheaper oils are either just as good or better.

But we don't live in "what if" land, and the truth is that Amsoil Signature Series is both a bad value and a good way to void your warranty for absolutely no reason. Often with complete engine replacements (across multiple brands, not just Honda/Acura) approval is required at the corporate level and they may ask for receipts proving maintenance history. If your receipts show that you used an oil that doesn't meet the manufacturer standard, they're well within their right to deny the warranty claim.

Otherwise, you'd be able to pour canola in there and get a new engine. There has to be a standard or the warranty is unworkable.

Okay so the real issue is warranty then. I agree with you I wouldn't run signature series either for warranty (or cost) concerns. We're in the same boat there. I don't run it anyway, but I would stick to API SP and up oils for sure like you said. Not sure if they would really be able to tell, or if they would care enough to dig that deep, but why risk the hassle.

Yeah I'm on the opposite side of that argument. I do think SS is as good as an API certified oil and wanted to jump in because of what you said.

The good news, for @dminusBird , is that ENEOS X Prime 5W-30 meets API SQ and ILSAC GF-7A requirements. So that is pretty cool that they already have their formulation updated (or it was already good enough). Given the more stringent requirements for SQ, it is likely a good oil. Their normal 0W-20 is what they recommend on their site and it meets SQ requirements as well.
oh man.. wasn’t sure if anyone was gonna go back to the original question about Eneos oil, hahaha. Thanks for the info fam, I appreciate it!

Yeah I apologize for hijacking the thread like that, I am now interested in Eneos oil though knowing it's apparently API SQ rated, so thanks. If Honda Formula R doesn't come out before my next oil change I may try that just to see.

no worries brother, a thread is a thread. I heard Eneos oil was really good, but just wanted some insight from people who knew better than I. Thanks for all the content! ^^

Just pick an oil that you like that is API SN rated or Higher and you should be golden - if you value your factory warranty. Everyone else's opinion is just that - an OPINION. Even "Oil Experts" would argue amongst themselves as there is NO single "Best" oil for every applications, just the best for your circumstance. I've tried various "boutique" oils in my previous car and has done numerous used oil analysis on all of them after usage. Guess what? None of those higher cost "boutique" oils fair any better than the factory OE oil. This was on my daily/weekend canyon warrior driven car - your usage may vary.

Just picked up 15 quarts of Pennzoil ultra platinum for 68 bucks on Amazon. Doesn’t get much better than this for me.
