This is normal, for the stock rotors. Even though they are 2 piece, repeated intense stops from high speeds will eventually causing pulsing due to hot spots on the rotors. They can still be driven on, but it is recommended to swap to Paragon or Girodisc rotors in the future. Paragon sells a replacement rotor ring for the stock rotor hat which saves money as opposed to buying a new complete 2-piece rotor.
Yea, I have them in my cart ready to pull the trigger. I just wanted to make sure thats what it was. It didnt do it my first 2 sessions, but towards the end it was bad. stock rear pads are pretty much toast. I will be doing pedal dance from now on lol

It's interesting - I have never had any issues with stock rotors pulsating with Paragon R5's or the Endless cc43 - I do think that may have happed with stocks pads - as they melted fast on track. Ive replaced the stock rotors 3 times due to spider fractures starting to show. The car has seen about 20 track days at Laguna Seca and about 6 track days at COTA.

I am curious - does anyone have visual photos on exactly when we should replace the stock rotors?

My stock rotors started pulsing and showing hotspots after I swapped to Hawk 5.0 pads(rears went out at 10k miles, so I swapped all corners) from just spirited street driving, my car has yet to touch a track. Didn't experience it with the stock pads but maybe the stock pads initiated it and it just became more noticable after switching to more aggressive pads.

I know the rears on these cars go out very fast with oem pads when you start to track, but I wonder how long the rears would last on a better pad like EBC blues or paragon r5. If you dont get much more life, maybe it would be more cost effective to go with duralast golds at your local autozone and just run a track pad in the front 😂

Most upgraded rear pads tend to last longer than the OEM rear pads. My Dixcel Type Z now have quite a few more miles on them than my OEM rears did and still have alot of life left on them.

Heat checking is fine. On other two piece rotors I use for track, I replace when the cracks get to the outer edge. Never been an issue for me.

I think I've made it the furthest on the forum for stock rear rotors / pads. This is a picture of mine right now at 35,300 miles.

This might be a few cracks / good example. 🤣

Alright.... logged 110+ miles on the 1pc DFC rotors + AKB pads. So far, they're solid with virtually no brake dust. I love the pedal feel; it bites early and effectively. I had 21k on the factory fronts, with some meat left, but I was tired of the brake squeal. Hoping to achieve similar results on this setup. Sat/Sun morning, I'd like to go hit some windy roads to test how well the new setup performs, and I'll report back. As of now, no complaints, definitely a good economy setup. Total cost $333.

Are the paragon titanium shims worth it on track or is it just snake oil?

I'm curious about that as well - I've tried it with them and without - but have no data on actual temps - with them on the Paragon Titanium - they just kind of float and are not very snug with contact on the pads, which doesn't seems like the best design

700+ miles in. the new front brake setup is still “solid.” Virtually no brake dust and I’ve been putting them through some serious daily paces. Had them cooking on 3 occasions.

This is a winning budget combo IMO.

Update: now 1200 miles deep, still low amounts of brake dust, but it’s starting to collect. Loving it, stock pads, with the same usage, could never! Plus side, the bite is still good, if not better. 🤙🏾

Hey Nero, you notice any squeal from your AKB pads when cold?
