So when I purchased my car back in December, I wanted to be sure to keep it stock. BUT, one thing leads to another. I’ve been trying to do tasteful mods to keep it more OEM plus. The question is, would upgrading the shifter to an Acuity shifter still qualify as OEM plus if it’s hidden under all the plastics? Lol.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never even considered this as an upgrade, never really had any problems with the OEM shifter. I just continue seeing others rant and rave about how good the Acuity is. I’d be open to getting one, IF it’s an actual improvement over stock.

I just installed my alcantara steering wheel and received my OEM JDM Alcantara shift boot and OEM JDM Cup holder/console lights from Black Hawk Japan. I figured if I’m opening up the center console area already and doing those two items, maybe I could knock out the shifter too.

Thoughts? Is the Acuity shifter really that good? If so, anybody have them in stock, appears they’re in back order til July…

That really depends on your definition of OEM+. For some people its sticking to Honda parts only, others its upgraded aftermarket parts but trying to keep the OEM aesthetic and feel. I lean more towards the latter.

The OEM shifter and transmission of the Type R is amazing, probably one of the best that comes on a car from factory. The Acuity shifter I feel just makes it even better.

I'm sure a vendor or distributor has one in stock, like Two Step, Unity, SBX performance, or Axion. Probably just gotta message them and find out.

I do, love it, probably one of my favorite upgrades.

Also, I totally forgot HRC has it in their race FL5 and will be selling an HRC branded version soon. Technically that would still be OEM+ since Honda will be selling it.

It’s comments like these that make me question that I need it! 🤣 it’s my FOMO that’s kicking in!!

I may look into the HRC version and wait then, we’ll see 👍

It’s the exact same thing as the Acuity version with HRC branding and a higher price tag.

Good point! I just started to look it up and I guess the consensus is it’s much more expensive just for the HRC sticker/engraving. Maybe I’ll just go Acuity then.

100% GET IT. It’s reversible in any case, but once you have it you’ll freakin love it. I have it in our fl5 along with the bushings. Our fk8 just has the bushings and they hardly do anything without the rest of the shifter. So yes… it’s greatness. It takes the great factory shifter to the next level .

You’ve pushed me over the edge! 😂

Wild this wasn’t on my radar until I see everyone say it’s amazing. I’m gonna pull the trigger on it then. You’re right, should I not be happy with it, I can easily put it back to stock.

I appreciate your feedback!!

OEM+ has become nothing more than a buzz word for a clean/tasteful build. Acuity shifter is awesome. You can still run it with the boot if you want to look stock.
This is spot on. It no longer means what it once did. There was a guy on here talking about his "OEM+ build" that was, by nearly all accounts, clearly in the heavily modified category with large frame aftermarket turbo, canflex, catless dp, intercooler, LPFP, HPFP, and 10+ other modifications. OP, just build the car however you'd like, it's your car, your money, and your peace.

Get the shifter, it’s so good. I had a hard time imagining the stock shifter could be improved upon, but it sure can! It’s also very adjustable, so you can tweak the settings to your liking.

OEM+ has become nothing more than a buzz word for a clean/tasteful build.
Observation I noticed about OEM+:
  • Gen Z (i.e., those with less than 10 years of car modifying experience) conflates OEM+ with clean and simple modifications (OEM and aftermarket).
  • Millenials and older (i.e., 10+ years of car modifying experience) use the classic definition of modification using OEM parts from other cars.
I'm a Gen Xer who doesn't understand modern kid-speak. 🫣😄

Acuity shifter and RMM were probably my two favorite mods on the car…
