With the new Google based infotainment system, I would hope that the TCU can still be easily removed without effecting functionality. It would suck if Honda changed the configuration to move the TCU before the new infotainment system.

Wouldn't the black plastic dash fade faster than the Alcantara?

For the rev match, the system is kind of weird and is a bit glitchy, so I wonder if they made a software update for it.

For the pedal feel, I do wonder what was changed. Hopefully @savagegeese will be able get better details
We wont likely drive it until April. You will see info from the Cali outlets first. Im sure pretty much every change can be retrofitted to the older cars if you really cared enough to do so. When and if I get any of the tech documents Ill post up.

If the airflow improvements from the front bumper changes were meaningful, they would have referenced specific percentages as they did with the FK8 refresh. Anyone looking for actual cooling improvements for the track should be going with something like the WOT kit - this isn’t going to do anything.

As for looks… more black plastic isn’t it. There’s now that garish black plastic band around the lower grill and the ‘points’ on the lip. The whole thing looks busy and probably even worse in real life. The original FL5 bumper was cleaner and will age better.

From an appearance point of view, I’d say the new bumper is actually a downgrade.

How did they achieve better thermal management? with mostly the same hardware?

Is it something we can replicate on our stock FL5s?

And how much better can it be?

Gemini Overview:

For the 2027 update vs. your 2024–2025 model, Honda's engineers targeted aerodynamic efficiency and airflow velocityrather than just throwing a physically bigger radiator into the car.

The official 2027 engineering changes for cooling breakdown into four key areas:

1. Reduced Turbulence = Higher Air Velocity
  • What changed: Honda redesigned the inner ducting, mesh pattern, and bumper channels behind the front fascia.
  • How it helps: By smoothing out air turbulence inside the bumper cavity, air hits the intercooler and main radiator at a much higher velocity. Higher air velocity means more heat is drawn away from the fins per second, keeping coolant and intake air temperatures lower during sustained heavy boost.
2. Redesigned Front Fascia & Larger Grille Opening
  • What changed: The front bumper was reshaped with a wider, more aggressive center opening.
  • How it helps: It feeds a higher overall volume of ambient air directly across the heat exchangers.
3. Deeper Front Splitter (Aero Extraction)
  • What changed: A deeper front splitter extends out from the bottom edge of the bumper.
  • How it helps: While its primary job is adding front-axle downforce, it also creates a stronger low-pressure zone under the car. This helps "pull" hot air out through the engine bay and top hood vent faster, preventing thermal congestion around the turbo and firewall.
4. Engine Bay Packaging & Crankcase Plumbing
  • What changed: As Derek Robinson highlighted in that CivicXI thread, Honda revised the turbo inlet clearance and crankcase ventilation setup.
    JPG

  • How it helps: While driven primarily by emissions standards, cleaning up the plumbing behind the K20 reduces thermal trapping against the firewall.
I'd take the AI overview with a lotta salt, I don't think drobs comments were made about this, a quick search verifies that. Also I find it hard that Gemini knows what's behind the front fascia when Honda hasn't released anything about those changes specifically - same goes for the opening being bigger (is argue it's actually smaller from the pictures) and some other points it made.

I genuinely don't think they made any substantial upgrades here.

Added more info I found from other sources. Funny enough, Honda didn't release a single percentage figure this time — no "X% more downforce," no "X% better cooling." Pretty classic Honda, lol.

I also grabbed a bunch of the highest-res press kit photos from Honda's official newsroom and added more side-by-side comparisons from different angles.

Personally, I think the new front end looks a bit like the HRC prototype Honda has shown off about a million times.

Also, a Japanese user went to the Saitama Honda Autumn Festival 2026 (さいたまHonda秋まつり2026) at Honda's Yorii plant on Sept. 27 and snapped a photo of hood on display. It doesn't look Sonic Grey to me, so I think it's maybe Meteorite Gray, kinda like Gen 10's Polished Metal Metallic

Someone had posted here somewhere about channeling the airflow better at the front of the bumper at the intercooler area and it benefited them cooling wise on the track.

Looking at the pictures, including the hrc one. It looks like they did the same thing on their end IMO.

I posted this in the intercooler reference thread in December 2025. Showing how much of the intercooler is actually getting airflow based on dirt buildup.

Maybe Honda opened this up a little bit.

But if Honda did, you would think they would boast about a good 10 maybe 15% more flow to the intercooler.

@Cueyo what do you think?

Upholstery shops likely can "heat" your seats for a price....in my world, cloth seats don't really need heating....leather and vinyl do. But, if you wanted it...it is doable without trading a car and losing equity. Weight is probably 1 or 2 lbs...not a big deal...if that. They can fail/break. Have had seat heating elements "break" in two prior cars...dealer cost to fix is crazy ....

It is great to know they are still making the car! Too bad they did not put a navy, yellow, green, orange, or some other fun color.... I think the CW is "the" best one to have based on history, but second for me is the red...guess it did not sell well.

I like the lighter chrome and standard dash frankly better.

Note my red usb A to usb C adapters...I think about 3 dollars on Amazon. Work great! And they are RED.

And knob....prefer recycled skate boards from Tokyo. :)

Maybe it is a little wider? It's so hard to tell from these images they released. And if it's just an insert, that can be swapped out between the two model years, I find it even harder to believe its actually adding more airflow.

Also wanted to note that HRC bumper doesn't have that angled bit on the lip. Again, hard to tell for sure because of the camo and the dive plane style protrusions.

The HRC bumper looks good because it's wider, the base CTR looks worse because it loses that front protrusion.

no offense but anyone who says the FL looks better or worse than the original should probably take a break from being online. they look the same

I do think it's a shame we lost the red color... and that the replacement is dark grey and not something fun
