Hey everyone just wanted to share my experience on getting my new Civic Type R jailbreak and the FlashPro from Hondata. Huge shout out to Hondata for their continued support, especially on this new Honda Type R platform.
If you’re a new motorsports enthusiast, then modifying your Civic Type R may be a bit intimidating. Lets face it, you just purchased a brand new car and you’re taking the “Brain” (ECU) out to ship to a company. However, I can assure you of 2 things:
This part is very straight forward. You’ll have to take out your ECU.
Disconnect the 2 harness plugs and bolts holding the ECU bracket. Take your time with disconnecting and plugging in the harness because you do NOT want to bend a pin.
On Hondata website they have a PDF form to download. Click here to get the form.
Fill out the form completely and ship the Form & ECU (do not ship the bracket) to Hondata HQ. *My advice just pay for the “Shipping Insurance”
The ECU Serial Number can be found here.
The Vin locations are on the windshield or door panel.
Hondata states 1-3 Business days for a Jailbreak turn around time. If this is something you’re planning to do and it’s your only car, plan accordingly. It’s definitely worth it because the end results will bring even bigger smiles in no time.
Once you get your ECU back, simply reinstall (take your time especially with the harness). From there if you already purchased your FlashPro, you can proceed to install that and enjoy one of Hondata’s preset calibrations. They have a 91 octane and 93 octane. I’m located in (hot) Southern California so I’m forced to use 91 octane tune. Daniel aka Powermetric will also be creating Stage and custom tuning for my car as well..but I will share that in time. Follow my social pages for up to date results (I’ll do my best to write on here to keep you all up to speed on my build and provide tips/tricks).
FlashPro Install:
Hang out for about 6 mins (Upload time).
Once upload is complete follow the prompts by turning ignition off and the turning the car back on. Because it's a Type R you’ll have to drive the car around (casually meaning do not full send it).
Technical reason for that is because after a reflash the Type R will not run in closed loop.
If you have any questions or need help with installing/uploading Hondata FlashPro feel free to ask.

- This is a common thing for Non Honda tuning platforms.
- Hondata is a very reputable company and (as of now) this is the only way to Jailbreak your 2023 Civic Type R ECU to give you tuning capabilities.

FlashPro Install:
- Grab a PC computer
- Connect to Internet
- Download Hondata FlashPro latest software
- Connect your FlashPro to your Laptop via USB cable provided (Update Firmware if needed)
- Connect the other end of the FlashPro to your Civic Type R OBD2 port (under the dash)
- Confirm connection on lower left side of FlashPro Manager Screen
- Register FlashPro
- Lock FlashPro to Vehicle
- Create New Calibration
- Select Desired Calibration, in California we have to pick 91 octane. 93 octane users automatically get to enjoy more power (lucky).
- Turn ignition On (Auxiliary Mode)
- Click Upload (Up Arrow)
