Some interesting information and feedback here regarding cooling.

I know AIRTEC Motorsport in the UK are just finalising the testing on their uprated cooling package; intercooler, oil cooler, auxiliary radiator and gearbox cooler as they used my car to develop it.
Are they going to be releasing their testing data? UK climate is very similar to the US Pacific Northwest.

As others have said, the FL5 doesn't seem to be plagued with the limp modes the FK8 was. At least at stock or neat stock power levels.

I've been testing up in the PNW at Ridge for the past few months trying to evaluate if and what level is needed to run consistently up here in the summer months.

Under 70* ambient -- the car is pretty good for the 20 minute session. It's consistent, power is there.

75* Ambient -- you start to see some higher oil temps in the 260's. IATs got a little higher, car started pulling a few mph on the straight

80*+ Ambient -- Inferred Oil Temps hit 275* in about 4 hot laps at pace. Gauge turns orange per Standard LogR settings. Car starts pulling 10mph after about 3 laps.

Coolant temps stayed in the 220's.

Perfect no -- an improvement. 100%. I'm thinking CSF Radiator or equivalent, and Oil Cooler should do the trick for the PNW climate. Hesitant on an intercooler that's not track tested in conjunction with accompanying radiator.

*Note -- this is with the hood vent's rainguard removed.

Lap Time Context -- running 1:51-52's with pads, rotors, tires, and front camber. Stock everything else. So far fastest FL5 times I've seen at the Ridge.
I do wonder what difference a Wagner I/C is vs say a PRL, etc. as i believe the Wagner is a different I/C construction, but also larger.

I do like your suggestion of just a radiator, but is it oil temps that are slowing down the car, or really the IATs? Or are you just trying to protect the oil temps alone.

There are a few products in the works currently by a few different companies. I know that PWR is soon going to release their oil cooler kit which is similar in concept to what HEL is offering but with a much better core. There's a company in the bay area working on a set up that will be different in concept from HEL and PWR. I know Driven Crazy and myself are working on both a new radiator/secondary radiator concept along with a dual oil cooler set up. There is hope to be had, and I'm sure that through our collective efforts we will solve this.

I don't like that the Wagner further blocks the radiator. It just doesn't compute. The J's looking promising, and it's marginally heavier than stock and substantially lighter than the PRL.

I really just prefer to change as little as possible. If the car can maintain overall cooler temps, I'd expect to less heat soak.

Ideally, I'd like to see someone develop an entire cooling stack solution, tested together, to ensure proper flow, than mashing together a sea of random parts.

This is helpful insight -- thanks! Looks like I'll be holding out a little longer before pulling the trigger on anything.

11th Gen Honda Civic FL5 Overheated on Track 1717542105717-57

These are my temps during my 3rd session after 2 hard laps. Ambient temp was around ~60F. I only installed the CSF radiator in terms of cooling mods.

I wonder if a rear mounted turbo would help things, seems like it's in the perfect place stock to just heat the radiator up.
Nope it doesn't. I have had other hot hatch/tuner cars with rear mounted OEM turbos and they have the same issue or worse. They also are much harder to work on, so I'm very happy with the placement of the FL5 turbo, downpipe, intercooler and radiator as they are pretty easy to work on.

but they really didn't need to run the intake pipe over the turbo/cat/downpipe... either put the intake on the other side or turn the turbo 180° and you don't have the IAT's super heated

Agreed. IAT issues on this car are a result of intake design. Acuity is apparently releasing an intake that solves that issue (routes directly to passenger wheel well).

Yeah I heard about that. But really this is a problem Honda shouldn’t have created in the first place. They designed it from scratch, could have easily done it in a way that doesn’t heatsoak the intake

(sorry, I’m in a complaining mood😁)

100% agree. It was largely a copy / paste (with some minor modifications) designed to prioritize packaging purposes (see 10th gen 2.0 Accord / 2.0 TLX / 2.0 RDX, etc.).

We have the same problem with the cooling loop.
