For the 1.5 turbo, I’ve read people had issues with the head bolts/gasket causing coolant to leak into the cylinders. On a stock motor, how many miles do you think this engine will last? Should I sell it before I hit a number of miles? It’s a 2022 Si

i know 2018s had a lot of head gasket failures. hopefully they've made some changes to prevent that from happening on new models.

I haven't heard of many issues with the stock 1.5Ts but more so with the more modified ones. I feel like that being the only reason for selling it is a pretty extreme direction when a relatively cheap solution is already available and on the market. We recommend installing our head stud kit to avoid the headache of blowing a head gasket. These can be installed one by one without lifting the cylinder head.

Edit: just realized how old this thread is. Oops?

This will probably be my next purchase. Probably don't need it with an OTS tune, but better safe than sorry.

I bought my 24 lx non turbo with 13 miles in January and at 42,460 miles in September it developed a misfire and went into limp mode the dealership said they would get it in the next day later and 2.5 weeks went by and after I had called and asked several times if anything was figured out. I get a call back and they told me they changed the spark plugs and it didn’t make a
Difference in what it was doing so they were going to have a Honda engineer come in to help them figure it out. Another week went by and now they claim it was either a head gasket or cracked head. And currently still in the shop after almost a month at this point.
And the loaner car I had to tell I wasn’t leaving with out one . Is hands down a complete disaster has a serpentine belt knock was a quart and a half low on oil I have to put air in the tires every day. And has an incredible left pull I can’t wait to give it back after I’ve been putting 1200 miles on it every week I have to drive it ??

I've heard that Honda made some changes around 23-24 to prevent the head gasket issue. anyone know what they changed?

My recommendations:
1. Only use premium fuel.
2. Avoid tuning.
3. Change coolant as recommended by Honda.

Honda chickened out and no longer says "Premium fuel only". I knew people who bought Lexus instead of Acura because of the premium fuel requirement, so this is why Honda did this. However your car will experience brief pre-pre-ignition on regular before the ECU reduces timing and pre-pre-ignition is hard on head gaskets.

Honda's L motor was originally designed for the Fit in 1.1L, 1.3L, and the stroked 1.5L. The stock 200HP out of this small engine is already stretching it. The "I do cars" YouTube teardowns illustrate how delicate this engine looks compared to the K engines.

Never had any issues with my Si over 36k miles. Did head stud upgrade a bit after I had almost full bolt ons and custom tune. Was pushing 223 whp and 262 ft/lb with never an issue. People seem to pull these motors being weak out of their ass. I tuned my 17 Sport hatch too and never had an issue.

😂 I had 333whp in my 19 SI. No head studs.

Exactly! But people will keep saying "Oh man that L15 is weak af."

It was custom tuned remotely via drob and when I bought it, it had 25k or 20k miles on it and I ran it up to 78-80k miles with no issues. I exploded fourth gear early on at like 30-35k miles and replaced them all with the the ppg gear set and kept sending it. Sold it for $18k and they sold it for $21k. That was through a certified Honda dealership where they were the ones who put the custom gear set in for me.

That thing was a beast. It was my daily driver.

Blowing rods dont seem as common as headgasket issues. I'd like to keep it around 250 and retain some reliability. Headgasket can be diy'ed, no big deal.
