It is but the market here does not really support it. And most people don’t have the knowledge on how to do it. Also from a tuner stand point that is cost to the customer. You really don’t invest anything with Hondata from a business standpoint.

You just put the knowledge.
Our market is really different, not a lot of tuners around, and very complicated to import things. Also no support from Hondata to this point.

So for us it is the way to go.

But I understand your point.

yeah in your case its way different. There are a lot of variables for sure. Here there are a a handful of reputable tuners for the platform still but the cost of jailbreak and Hardware fall on the customer. The software is free from Hondata so it gives a lot of flexibility for the tuners. I don’t plan on offering tunes for the FL5 or FK8 platform. I will just keep it in house and just focus on sharing findings with people here.

I do tune cars for a living but I have a lot of love for Hondas so count on me to share every bit of info I can get my hands on. Also if someone need help with a tune, let me know.

Just sick of tuning ea888s and DAZAs all day long lol

Yeah I tune cars also but don’t make a living off it since my other profession is too time consuming. But looking forward to your findings and what you share. Will do the same from my hemisphere😂.

Lol they are everywhere down there. I think you will be happy with the K20C, most of my usuals are K20’s k24’s f22c’s, subaru’s, Focus St and Fiesta ST and the odd ball srt4 every once in a while.

I planned to take my FL5 to Marysville tomorrow but the last track day had a different opinion when I found a metal washer buried deeper then the treads near the belts.

That said, Honda dealer already broke a bead/belt on the replacement and is awaiting another.

Therefore, can someone share how to remove the ECU so me and my trailsport and my ECU can make it tomorrow?

Fellow member @jayely14 was kind enough to post a video a while back. See the post here.

It seems like it is possible to OBD flash without unlocking the ecu with one specific tool. So there is hope for a flash tune without jailbreak. I will test this in the upcoming days and let you know

Why are there so few posts of people's experience with a hondata tune?

Are people just not getting them yet?

There are a handful of people on this forum who have Hondata on their FL5. You have to realize there aren't a large number of these cars out there yet. The numbers will climb over time and you'll see more reviews. There's also a portion of the population who aren't interested in tuning their car for various reasons. The lack of reviews is not indicative of anything.

What more are you looking for in the way of reviews? Do you have targeted questions? The software is what it is and reviews will be directionally consistent. Hondata has been at this for over 20 years and they have a sterling reputation in this space. Based on previous posts I get the sense you're interested, but you have reservations. With all due respect, if you're scared to tune the car, this isn't for you, and that's ok.

I appreciate the response.

I come from the VW world and you could read literally hundreds of reviews on different tunes. Obviously there are way more GTIs than Type Rs out there.

I'm very interested in the hondata tune and will almost assuredly get it. Just wanted to read more people's trades on power, smoothness, temps, fuel economy, check engine lights etc.

I will be tracking my car and heat is a concern obviously. I even considered doing the 91 octane tune even though I have 93 octane available to me just to keep the tune safe and temps down on track

If you will track the car then it might be worth it to do a track tune. So its a bit more power but not too much stress on the engine. Should be fine. I will be tuning mine at the end of the month. Will hopefully have a comparison of the Hondata tune with the track tune if I can get dyno time and maybe another tune offered by one of the companies here if they are willing to help out.

This exactly. I've always found that a ~25% bump in power is really the most fun I get out of modifying cars. The increased demands of things that need to be exchanged/upgraded/repaired when you go too far really starts making a dent on the nature of the car, and it gets to the point where you should have just bought a different car.

To each their own, and I enjoy watching these cars get pushed to their potential, but my personal goal is subtle reliable power to about 365hp to the wheels and some nice clean wheels and other subtle exterior upgrades. I'm watching the Hondata/tuning threads closely to see what nice solid tunes start coming out where I won't have to really worry about what fuel I'm using and what my temps and knock count are datalogging at.

Pardon my ignorance here please.

I read every post in this thread but I'm not understanding what your ability is to switch back and forth between tunes?

Can I get the Hondata tune and using the flash pro be able to swap back and forth between the tuned and stock ecu? Thanks

That is correct. You can switch back to the factory calibration via 'Return ECU To Stock' at your leisure.
