It's not like they had a choice. It was part of the ~$6million agreement they paid to the government. People talk like COBB had some choice in the matter.
YesDoes this mean Hondata is going down the route Cobb did with Greenspeed? The AP was awesome for my sti until the greenspeed update came out. Forced a lot of people to go stand alone
i'm ok with not being ok with this. why should we cheer on corporate enshittification?I'm ok with this.
what a horrible view of life. it's sad that you think this way. This is such a naive statement. BUSINESS IS BUSINESS. Passion has no real place in business. At all.
If you're one of the lucky few who does something for a living you're passionate about, congratulations. Otherwise, making money is literally the meaning of life. If you haven't figured that out yet, I don't know whether to praise you or feel sorry for you.
No one. NO ONE. Works for free.
Wait: you are saying that Cobb -- who announced support for this platform less than 2 years ago (Aug '24) and brought their first hardware to market (Intake / Intercooler) only 9 months ago -- is no longer developing for this platform? He was.
What we are hearing so far is that Cobb ceased further Honda development some time ago and they that EPT is fully backing Hondata for this platform at this time. I'm not aware of any immediate changes to Hondata's leadership. What all of this means long term, only time will tell.
The fact they stopped development so early makes me think either they had planned this acquisition way in advance, or intended for just a MVP to get people into the ecosystem.Wait: you are saying that Cobb -- who announced support for this platform less than 2 years ago (Aug '24) and brought their first hardware to market (Intake / Intercooler) only 9 months ago -- is no longer developing for this platform?
I was a little on the fence re: Hondata / Cobb (leaning Hondata anyways), but this would be a big factor in my decision.
If it's the case, the purchase explains it. Why develop for a platform when you can just buy your competitor? The fact they stopped development so early
Going bankrupt or being shut down by the gov is not a business decision, but cashing out should be an option - as disappointing to others as it is... at least as much as continuing to navigate the marketTrue, at least it's a business decision unlike selling the business altogether
That said, I wouldn't give the government too much credit. Cobb should've always had non-CAFE compliant software features labeled as such. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
I'm specifically referring to Hondata in that first sentence, should've clarified. It's not like the EPA was coming for them. If anything it'll come for them now that they're under the EPT umbrella :/Going bankrupt or being shut down by the gov is not a business decision, but cashing out should be an option - as disappointing to others as it is... at least as much as continuing to navigate the market
CAFE standards is fuel efficiency for auto manufacturers, it is not related to this. COBB made an emissions defeat device, which EPA didn't really didn't go after because it had been a small market and there were many players making a minimal effort a hard sell. When coal rollers became a nationwide news headline, were easily found on social media, and people in 50 states could see them on the road, EPA and CARB had pressure to nail them and also target related tuner businesses and parts suppliers - that was dieselgate.
Perhaps if cobb had CARB compliant models, it wouldn't have been so bad, but merely labeling features is not sufficient, the entire sold product must be carb compliant. Hondata's CARB flash pro can't be tuned. Hondata was based in California and there was foresight to make a product for the small and marginal market interested in being legal in state. A Texas based company like Cobb would probably never have bothered. I regard this as the defining factor behind why Cobb's settlement disallows them from selling an off-road/race version like hondata has been able to maintain.
Blah blah blah, all of you need to stop crying and reading too much into my comments. I said what I said- a comment on a forum doesn't necessarily imply any "view on life".what a horrible view of life. it's sad that you think this way.
the meaning of life is not financial gains.
I thought you were referring to sewing machines for a hot second.edit- kidding aside, just look at Singer. That's actually genuine passion!
I think it's a little hard to tell what you believe when you've said multiple times on the forums that you tend to get angry and just write stuffBlah blah blah, all of you need to stop crying and reading too much into my comments. Just validates the root of what I was getting at- it's pretty pathetic to assume people give a shit about passion when business is involved. Read into that however you will. I'm not over here shedding tears because my favorite fucking tuning company sold to private equity.
"But they have to love cars or they wouldn't do it".
Fucking hilarious, you guys. Why don't they just give them away, while you're fucking around.
edit- kidding aside, just look at Singer. That's actually genuine passion!
But what do they fucking cost?
Hint.
I love Singer, I think they're worth every penny.
$550 "tune" = "passion" lololol
I do rage-post occasionally, and satire and tongue-in-cheek all fit within those boundaries.I think it's a little hard to tell what you believe when you've said multiple times on the forums that you tend to get angry and just write stuff
Crazy they make such expensive sewing machines now, but on the real, that's cheap as shit for a basically bespoke car.
