I'm not expecting to get the first year, possibly 2nd and pretty sure I can snag the 3rd. Then I might as well wait for the 4th year with mid model makeovers.

Half of me says, go with the Mk8...faster automatic, ventilated/heated seats, etc. Sporty but luxurious. 😇
Other half says, who cares about luxury and 0-60 times...you love to shift and this one will be quicker around a track! 😈

no comparison honestly...if it wasn't for prices being inflated right now, the r's would be worth nothing already. vw's are one of the worst depreciating cars out there for a reason.

i agree VW's are because I stole my gti but R's hold their value well as top Hondas. Least the MK7 did even before the pandemic. First gen R32 might as well be a Type R.

One of the other things I reallllly miss about my FK8 after going to the MK8 is the storage space of FK8 compared to Golf. It’s quite a bit smaller in the Golf cargo area. The whole touch screen thing is extremely overblown in my opinion. Would I rather have actually knobs? Yes, but it’s not a dealbreaker whatsoever and I don’t really get the reviewers who say it’s the worst thing of all time. But yea, the leather seats are extremely comfortable and nice.

Just a random blurb of unorganized information about both cars haha.

i actually like them, i used to have multiple mk2's and mk3's back in the day. i loved them for their simplicity and how easy they were to fix. but i just can't get down with owning a newer one with all the horror stories i hear from my buddy who is a 23 year master vw/audi tech

Mk7s with gen3 ea888 are basically trouble free. Coolant leak issues on earlier models covered by vw. Makes 300whp with just a flash and build quality is far above fk8. I have a 2018, so it came with 5 year 60k bumper to bumper. No real issued apr s1.

This is one of my local dealers (also one of the highest volume dealers in the country, apparently). Needless to say, I’m not going through them.

I remember when the FK8 was released, the months beforehand just like now, exact same situation...similar thread of markups and dealer tracking. Some were messaging they were willing to pay above, some saying MSRP or nothing, stories of people seeing the car in person and on the spot paying 10k above to lock it in...
As hard as it is to believe, there really are people willing to buy these at these kind of markups, especially @ launch...sucks, and although some won't, many dealers will gladly sit on a 10-20k markup waiting for the desperate buyer that has to have it.

Wish us all the best of luck and the lowest of prices 🍻
