Has anyone else had an issue with their PS4S's with inaide tread chunking? My tires have 17k on them, no track days, no auto-x and just street driving. They all still have 6/32 remaining.

Yeah definitely curious what's going on here. ^Cold temps and at-the-limit driving would be a culprit but I'm leaning alignment as well.

Not 100% clear from the pics but is this just one tire? That would at least point to a tire failure but if it's happening on more than one that's environmental.

A couple of people have mentioned cold.
That's what it looks like to me, too. Was it cold out when you first saw this, like below 40°?

Usually when I've seen customers with tires like that are for several reasons.
1) driven regularly on sharp edged rock or brick roads/driveways.
2) aggressive driving on summer tires in cold winter.
3) tire tread separation from rubber that did not cure properly when manufactured.

PS4S usually have a 30k mile warranty. If this happening on all four tires you should get a proration credit (a little less than 50% $ towards another Michelin/bfgoodrich tire) if you claim it as "tread separation". Bring it to a tire center and they will contact Michelin.

Tire Rack's Advice

Can I Drive Summer Performance Tires In Cold Temperatures?

Can you? Or, should you? The simple answer is — no you shouldn't. Summer performance tires are simply not designed for near- or below-freezing temperatures. Here's a quick explanation of why.
Summer performance tires feature tread rubber compounds engineered to provide traction in warm to hot temperatures only. As temperatures drop into the 40s, a summer performance tire's tread compound changes from a pliable elastic to an inflexible plastic, drastically reducing traction capabilities. The tire industry calls this process the "glass transition." And, without traction, your vehicle will have a hard time staying on the road!
In fact, should summer performance tires even be exposed to near- or below-freezing temperatures, tread compound cracking or tread block chipping can occur. Once a tire has been damaged in this way, it will need to be replaced. And, as both types of damage only occur as the result of improper use or storage, they will not typically be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
So, to recap — don't drive summer tires in the cold! Save yourself the headache of an accident or damaged tires, and transition to All-Season or dedicated Winter tires in the Fall - before cold weather hits.

You have driven these ps4 Summer tyres in sub freezing temps..You might attempt to claim a faulty tyre, but please don't tell them that you used these Summer tyres in the freezing winter.

There's your issue right there. These tires should not be regularly driven or rather driven at all in temps that cold.

If it's the passengers side front tire, check your alignment. I'm guessing there's a lot of toe out in the front. Under compression/as the suspension settles, it will toe out in the front. Set it to zero toe.

These tires should have no problems in any weather other than ice/snow or serious track laps.
