Question about CRC intake valve cleaner

I agree with the do not use mention. The best way to assure minimum buildup is by using top tier fuels and keep the engine from lugging..Top tier fuels have up to 19 times the carbon reducing additives than cheap low tier fuels..Top tier may be a bit more $$, but how much is an engine teardown for impacted valves?Conoco, Exxon, Shell, Mobil, Marathon, Cosco..are good top tier fuels..There are others in certain regions..I use 93 octane Shell, Exxon or Marathon @ $5.04/gallon as of yesterday.

No, it doesn't really help anything. Port injection doesn't have carbon problems anyway. But I like to rev it out.

I have heard that vacuum pulls can help with intake valve deposits. Like revving it up to redline on a downhill and letting it coast down in gear.

It helps with blow-by, so technically yes, but there's no replacement for a walnut blasting.

Also as a sidenote, has anyone on this platform or the fk8 or the one before that has any issues with carbon buildup? I wonder what miles people with older type Rs are cleaning the intakes

supposedly, Honda's OEM PCV system on the L15 is extremely good compared to other GDI engines

i've actually never heard of anyone walnut blasting their intake valves on Honda forums

The point that I was attempting to make was that we have options..We can buy discount,but gov. allowed minimum additives, or we can choose brands that have up to 19 times more protective additives than gov. minimum brands. I choose the top tier brands in my region.

if gas suppliers are adding additional detergents/additives they will advertise so. Just because a station doesn't have the "TOP TIER" certification doesn't mean it isn't excellent fuel.

For example. Circle K isn't top tier, yet, they advertise using double the minimum detergents in their Premium fuel. Also, Shell and Exxon are supposedly TOP TIER but I haven't seen the Top Tier sticker in years on any of the pumps.

I'm mid tuning sessions with Derek. I'll notice bad gas quick. Hopefully I don't have that issue. I try to avoid places that look old and run down.

The website toptiergas.com lists stations selling it. Lake Speed Jr's "The Oil Geek" Youtube channel shows >10X reduction in combustion chamber/piston ring deposits with Top Tier fuel. It won't do much for valve deposits in DI engines unless you're getting oil dilution from short, winter trips.

Yes, running to redline at max throttle will remove some valve deposits. VW/Audi DI drivers that rarely got on the gas were having big problems with valve deposits, as the deposits became large enough to clog the cat once they broke loose.

Im more curious as to whether there's any precedent with the k20c1 for this, I have yet to see any posts on civicx about it, but to be fair I only ever went there to read the drama about boosting the k20c2

It is good to know that shifting at redline has a beneficial effect, yet I shift at redline only when thoroughly warmed up and only each time I shift 1st and 2nd, otherwise I'll exceed the speed limit which I never ever do
