remove front license plate bracket?

has anyone removed the front license plate bracket? I'm getting PPF and want it out of the way. Any tips would be great. thanks in advance.

unfortunately that's not the same. the hardware attaching mine to the bumper is completely hidden. so annoying.

Take it off and get something like a Sly Bracket. The placement of your bracket will rub the painted part of the front bumper. Get rid of it ASAP and don’t look back.

Its drilled into the black area not into the paint. There are two spots on the grill made for it specifically. Looking at it from the front you would not be able to tell. My point is its fine - there is no damage to the painted or gloss areas.

@Integra23 Look at the picture more closely. That bracket is different than the stock bracket that came with my FL5 and everyone else’s US FL5 that I’ve seen. That bracket is very similar to what came with my 09 Si and it will definitely rub the painted part of the bumper…especially if someone decides to give you a little bumper tap while the car is in a parking lot. Ugh!

This is an Asian market product for the 10th gen but AFAIK it will be a similar design.

This is totally different from US / Canada bumper license plate fitment where we just ram metal screws into bare plastic.

Regarding the license plate the OP showed... it seems like you could maybe slide those metal clips inwards to free it up?? I don't think it should need to be removed from the back, because there is no way Aussie dealers are pulling the bumpers to install the license plate brackets on all their cars.

It’s bolted down from behind the bumper so it’s a bumper off job.

That is super annoying. Assuming the car was pre-sold to you, they should’ve checked to see if you want the bracket installed, since it is not easy to remove. Just take the car back and have them remove it.

those tabs are there only there hold the plate in place. i've had a really good look from above and below (up on a lift) and the only way to get to the hardware (which faces the radiator) is to remove the bumper or grill. both are a pain. according to my dealer all Aud cars left the factory with this madness, rather than dealer fit.
