I read and watched on youtube that all the new Honda's have a monitoring system where they can track your speed and send it back to your insurance company, and slowly raise your premiums. Is this true? I couldn't find any information on here.

Premiums go up yearly anyways regardless if they're tracking you or not. Most insurance companies where they track you like that is so you can possibly get a discount and pay less sort of a pay as you go, you have to opt into it they can't just track you and generally they give you a device that plugs into the OBD port or something that is part of an app on your phone.

You have to agree to it through app, it's not automatic

I opted to turn off data sharing in the menus.

Yes, Honda has the ability to capture driving data. Hopefully my menu selection disabled that.

I'm not aware of Honda selling data to insurance companies, unlike the widely reported GM issues.

The sharing of the information did happen. For that reason I also don't use HondaLink.

Honda has since changed their policy as far as sharing the information.

This feature was removed May 9th of this year.

So Honda no longer shares that information with the insurance agencies. This practice was likely explained to you similar to how insurance agencies spin it. "Discounts for safe driving" type stuff...

Look through your emails to see if you received an email from HondaLink. The title is "Discontinuing HondaLink Driver Feedback"

Hope this helps

The discount for monitoring sounds good until you understand how it works.

It might make sense - might - if it actually could see the traffic around you and assess your actions taking that into account. But it can't.
So if you hit your brakes hard to avoid a head on because some genius decided to pass four cars on a curvy two lane and is coming right at you - happened to me yesterday - then you get dinged, as opposed to getting kudos for being aware and responding appropriately. Because the app just knows you hit the brakes hard. Or maybe you accelerated hard so that you could safely and smoothly merge, or pass. Ding. Etc.

Just say no. You'll thank me later.

For what it's worth, I had data sharing turned on, and I requested a copy of my driver profile from the company who would've reported my driving behaviors (Verisk?) for my FL5, DE5, and A-Spec + Tech Integra--I got a pretty quick response via mail, they didn't create a driver profile for me, and didn't report anything about my driving behaviors for those 3 cars to anyone.

There's been much speculation on this topic. At least in this thread the default isn't to pick up the pitchforks and storm Honda NAHQ.

I'm too lazy to go dig it up right now, but apparently the FL5/DE5 do not have the Telematics Control Unit that collects and sends this data to Big Honda (or LexisNexis or whatever). But I personally haven't found this documented anywhere, just forum hearsay.

the 2023 Civic Type R in the US does not have the Driver Feedback option in the paid Honda Link app. Other Hondas do, not the FL5. US FL5 was never impacted by this.
Would love to see anything that backs what you are saying.
