Greetings, I have recieved a recall notice from Honda, concerning the replacement and re greesing a steering rack part..to make the steering feel more neutral..Has anyone else gotten this notice? My steering feels fine, but some of you have mentioned unusual feel turning left or right. I have not felt any thing of the sort..My caution here is..Should I take a perfectly functioning steering system to the dealer and have some clod ruin it by not replacing the "defective" part correctly. This is a real concern for me. Thanks, Howard

I’m in the same boat. My steering feels fine so far and I’m inclined to leave it be rather than chancing it with the dealership techs.

It’s a shame that dealership experiences are so universally negative that we have to be this paranoid.

Get it done. Techs now have plenty of experience and it only takes about 1/2 hour. Otherwise you risk component wear from insufficient lubrication.
THIS…plus…you know, there’s the whole safety thing to be paranoid about, especially if you frequently have passengers and drive on public roads.

I got the notice and I don't have any steering issues 🤞. I'm reluctant to get it done after my previous dealership experience. I took my car for an AC leak warranty repair. I picked it up hours later with 50 more miles on the odometer. My mistake was taking it to a small dealership near my house. Next time I'll go to the largest dealer in the USA (by sales volume) further away. They'll have more experienced techs who are too busy to be needlessly driving customer cars. 😅

Wow, 50 extra miles? I’d be less than pleased about that. I mean yea, after installing the repair I can see a test drive to make sure everything is in working order, but not a trip to go play pimpin in someone else’s car. I bet it was hard to resist giving back such a nice Honda. I once stored my NSX at a friends house and when I can to pick it back up a few weeks later, it had an extra 20 some miles on it. I asked and he was like dude, I just had to drive it. He was a close friend that I trusted and knew how to drive a stick so it didn’t hurt too bad. I still feel your pain though.

mine was fine. got the recall done and the rack developed slop and was clunking a bunch at low speeds. Had to get it replaced again.

I wouldn't get the recall done unless you're having issues

My steering was also perfectly fine, but still had the recall done start of last year. No major issues but found out they didnt even do an allignment. Had an extra 10km on my clock but makes sense since they need to "test" it.

There is ZERO need for the dealer test driving the car if the latest recall procedure is used. The alignment is untouched.

If the rack was exchanged, they might have an excuse, but I've never had an alignment shop test drive my car before giving it back to me.

So I've been stalling out until I felt issues to do this recall, and.. since a week ago, I actually feel the 'stickiness' in my steering. I think this is a matter of time thing perhaps - I have a 2023. I would recommend folks to just do it at your convenience.

I had my whole steering rack taken out. I wish I had done recall later when they had discovered the new more efficient way to do it.

In South Africa, the recall is a two day job. It requires replacing the steering rack, re-alignment and calibration of sensors.

Personally, had I known the headache it was going to cause I would have not done it. The only symptom was the ticking sound. The recall introduced a bunch of other issues.

I agree on the whole safety aspect of attending to a defective part but just make sure whoever you take it does a proper job and is transparent about what is being done on your car.

If we're talking about the same recall, that's what dealers had to do before Honda produced a tool to avoid all that work. That's what would have been used in my case, as in most cases.
