What about the FL5 do you regret?

I sort of regret buying the FL5 - I mean I love looking at it, love what it is, but it just doesn't fit what we need, and especially doesn't fit the shitty roads where we live. But I don't think I could have understood that without owning it.

My wife had so many restrictions on what we buy that it seemed like the only car that fit (no German, $40k max, though i broke that rule, has to fit 4 people - she said she wanted a manual but now complains about driving a manual).

Without her input I'd have likely bought something like an M340i, something more luxurious with a better sounding engine, suitable for family trips.

I've owned 2 BMWs from new or nearly new (one for 16 years and one for 22 years and counting) - LOVED driving them, but HATED maintaining them and this was when BMW offered 4 years of free maintenance! There is nothing in BMW's line up today that I would trade my FL5 for. As a matter of fact, I sold one of them (supposed to be my forever car) to buy the FL5!

No real regrets but if I had to do it again I'd wait on a CW. I feel like I see more boost blue than anything else.

If I was to wrap however, I would like to do something similar to the sand dune "grandpa" color from the regular Civics.

It's the opposite here for me. Every single FL5 I see around where I live is CW.

The S54 was very reliable, but of course you'll have to do the rod bearings and exhaust hub and all the stuffs that Beisan offered fixes, which I did on mine at about 50k miles. If I showed you all the receipts for maintenance on that car, it's not for the faint of heart! The M54 I have and still does is very, very reliable even after 160k miles - it's my "home depot" run car now. With that said, you have to keep your maintenance in check or it can snowball out of hand pretty quickly.

Joining the various internet forums and groups, and having to read about people complaining about the bucket seats and stiff suspension in a track oriented hot hatch.

It's like going to a concert and complaing the music is too loud.

This is why I assume Germans started the "M/AMG lite performance lines". It's for the person who wants a fast car but not really any dealings of the track suspension, loud exhausts and stiff seats and lack of creature comforts. Can't handle a real M or AMG for a daily. They want a car with a 0 to 60 of 3 seconds but the MPG of a Prius.

They gripe about the price of 93 octane and debate if it is really needed, because they filled up with 87 and the car feels exactly the same. Like going on a date with a fancy model and expecting her to drink tap water at the restaurant instead of Aqua Panna.

It's like the same guys that go "boxing" at their $300 a month health club gym but have never taken a punch and would cry if they went to a real boxing gym lol. Okay I need to stop I'm done for the day.

No regrets but I do wish I held out for CW over my RR. The red looks awesome but I always wanted the heritage white. Unfortunately the next 2 cars my dealer received were white doh!

That's like comparing Kraft singles to "insert nasty fancy boy cheese that you probably eat".

Just kidding, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on ownership of the Taycan Turbo S, if you leased/purchased and how/why jump back to an ICE car vs another EV?

On that note it is absurd how the EVs are in hypercar or Supercar level with their 0 to 60 speeds.

Hating on the lack of 'raw' car feeling from it right now. My older Si has way more engine noise and feeling to it. Don't know where to start for mods to get that feeling back but I'm sure I'll find it.

Well unfortunately it’s not an exactly easy answer for me. It was one the very best cars and the worst cars I have ever owned at the same time. When it worked it was fantastic great driving experience, good power, quiet, and comfortable. However the time it’s actually working and not having a problem is very small in my experience.

It was always in the shop getting something replaced and when it’s in the shop it’s there for weeks or months at a time. After all these problems thats when I purchased my type r as its replacement. I have been wanting one for a while and really missed a manual. You can’t get better reliability then an Honda too.

After I got it while it was an amazing car I really just missed the electric experience and was unfairly comparing it too it. Originally I thought I just got a lemon so I purchased another turbo s. That one failed after five miles of driving off the delivery truck. After that I was tired of dealing with what’s next. Had my Tyoe R at the same time as the second taycan and ultimately decided to keep it over it and had Porsche buy it back.

The steering feel in the type r is leagues better then the taycan. While the interior isn’t as nice in the type r as the taycan I find it a very nice place to be in and much prefer it over the type s. The type r interior is subdued but with great design which actually makes it feel more luxurious then it is. I have never once felt like downgraded in that respect which says allot for a car worth less then a quarter of what I was comparing it too.

It gets on my nerves that there are sooooo many awesome "looking" batteries on wheels out there, that will never be combustion engine vehicles.
So many designs that look truly 21st Century.

Unfortunately we are at the stage where it’s still being adopted and the hardware isn’t there for the original oems. The only thing gas has over electric currently is sound (which in new vehicles is limited to very few nice sounding cars) and engagement (but that’s only if you compare it to a manual). I can appreciate both and own both. Right now there isn’t the same emotional connection as some of my gas cars but we are still at the infancy of this technology.

Don't forget less violent toxic fires. Also our grid can't handle electric everything right now. Also electric vehicles hate winter weather. I like them as a toy right now not a daily driver for all year round.
