I know this isn't a Civic. But worth mentioning. It does rub, at least on comfort settings with the DSC. Only on very rough bumps but it rubs.

Eibach Pro-Kit
EVS ball joints -3.5 degrees front camber
275/35-18 RE-71RZ
DSC Controller OTS "lowered" tune

Damn, seriously? I'm surprised. All 4 corners? Front? Rear?

I’m surprised as well. Maybe it’s the DSC but generally that set up doesn’t rub especially with -3.5 of camber.

It's worth exploring, maybe my car is an outlier. Also the DSC makes sense. This was just on a test run, I literally just took it for a spin, I'll be doing more in depth troubleshooting today - but I should also note that this sequence of bumps is NASTY. Like, nearly airborne at 40 mph. But it does not rub with my Apex 19x9.5+45/OEM PS4S setup and that's all I changed yesterday was the wheels.

Sounds like it's probably all 4, but honestly it might only be coming from the right side? Sound can be deceiving inside the cabin. It's also worth mentioning I nearly disintegrated a single tire last fall on the right front during an autocross on the Apex setup but with 275 Falkens, and I don't really have an explanation for it. I chalked it up to a defective RT660+.

In any case I'm convinced I must do coilovers now and continue to throw money at the problem. First stop though is an alignment; probably not related but I've been meaning to get one anyway to see if the toe contributed to melting that tire.

I'm guessing no one else has run this setup with RE-71RZ yet? Maybe the tires are just extra chonky?

UPDATE: still rubs set to Sport and Sport+, all 4 corners. Seriously WTF. Appointment set with my performance shop for Monday to start exploring this... and probably roll the fenders?

Disappointed to say the least. First autocross of the season was this Sunday, that's not happening now.

Are the type S fenders factory rolled like on the FL5?

Our fk8 rubs like that on big bumps with 18x9.5 +40… only in the rear, but the fk8 fenders aren’t factory rolled like on my fl5.

There is something going on here. DE5 fitment *should* be the same as FL5. Unless as scottjua mentioned earlier if the fenders (like FK8) are flares and its rubbing on some plastic. Although I havent inspected a DE5 that closely on the fenders in person since at the shop.

skipping the autox because of some minor rubbing is comedy
I guess, but I've been apprehensive that something is going on since this happened last fall. Just the one tire from the right front, all the others look fine (note the fucked up part is the inside of the tire).

Event's 1.5 hours away, I guess my apprehension outweighs how hardcore an autoxer I am.

Plus this one's probably in the cool rain and I have another, closer one next week.

But more curiously- you really think this is minor enough to brush off and go balls-to-the-wall in an autox? It rubs by going over a bump, I just felt like I'd destroy an $1800 set of tires...

that looks like a pretty common RT660 problem

the rubbing you say you're experiencing is from "nasty" bumps - which I'm going to guess are unlikely to be part of your autox course...
if you're only rubbing going over insane bumps that you wouldn't take at speed with your family in the car or coffee in your lap anyways... then is your rubbing problem actually a problem?

either way, you're going to get it fixed on Monday. to me this sounds like a minor issue that may not even be an issue during your autox.

if you're rubbing constantly going down the road normally, which would cause your tires to be shredded by the time you get to your autox 1.5hrs away... that's a problem.

Thanks for the response, helps lighten the mood a bit because honestly, I haven't really experienced rubbing on cars in the past so I didn't know what to expect. I hear you and this is consistent with thoughts I've had... And it's good to get a bit more validation in what I had suspected was just a faulty RT660.

It's just beyond my tolerance for bullshit at the moment, and if I did happen to shred a set of tires it would in all seriousness probably push me past the deep end and I'd sell the car. I've had moments like this in the past that literally ruined my relationship with vehicles I've otherwise loved. The one that most vividly comes to mind is I "dropped" an R6 I'd owned for 4 months WHILE TRYING TO PARK IT- I mean, it grazed the ground with me actively pulling it while stationary- doing nothing more than barely scraping the muffler and fairing. I put it up for sale the next week.

That is definitely a me problem. (also fun fact the bike was actually stolen a few weeks after putting it up for sale)

Anyway if I REALLY wanted to do the autocross I'd put the Apex's back on and drive out there with the Volks in the car. I'm more just irritated that it's one more thing I have to deal with I wasn't expecting to. The autox is a small sacrifice, especially with another one right after it the following week.

Brother. I feel ya. I really do. But perhaps modding things you love may be a mistake. No mod goes without some form of sacrifice or issue. Kind of goes with the territory and its based on your interpretation and understanding of how your percieve it.

Ultimately, if a person is inexperienced or new to a platform, mistakes are going to be made. Hell, sometimes there are issues with the part or component, like your tire for instance. Then its a pain, have to fight to get it replaced or go through the hassle nevertheless. Got to love it. Lol.

While building my FL5, (not documented on here yet) I have made mistakes buying parts I ended up not using or had issues with outside my control. This has cost me thousands and have been a hassle to return or sell. But I love "the chase" nevertheless.

For instance, lowering a car is basically opening Pandora's Box with associated suspension geometry issues, premature wear of associated components, and fitment issues with various aftermarket wheel sizes and tires. You have 200TW tires there with very square side walls. Unlike Michelin, Pirelli, Continential, etc. Have to take that in account being low.

I know lowering the car alone is not the best for motorsport use in basically any capacity without a multitude of supporting mods to correct the geometry, and provide correct adjustment capability over oem limitations.

However, I totally understand why people do it. It looks great and there is no hate associated.

I wish you the best of luck taking care of your issue. Personally, if you are uncomfortable, I would place the car in an experts hands to get it dialed in, or the problem identified.

Best of luck

It might be worth swapping out the DSC for the OEM module to see if that makes a difference.

Dont let it discourage you. It should be an easy fix, just need to sort it out. Worst comes to worst, some fender rolling or sell the wheels for a more conservative spec. Keep us posted.

Nah, I'm allowed to be frustrated. Everyone in this thread swore by the fitment.
