It was a high mileage camry and extreme oil consumption was a known issue with them. I'm not fancy enough for a German car
That makes 2 of us. Guess we’ll never experience the “luxury” of a German car always being in the shop. Oh well…

My daily is a Camry with 502k miles. It runs better and sounds better than cars 1/4 the mileage. However.. It does look like it's been to the sun and back though...

I have the Wunderladen dipstick and didn't know about the oil level being off. I'll just go one notch down from the high mark on my next oil change. Not a big deal now I know.

Did my first oil change this weekend, and installed the Wunderladen dipstick. With fresh oil it honestly wasn't much easier to read(I actually was able to read the OEM one better due to the shop light) The Wunderladen stick does fit a lot tighter than OEM, for better or worse.

Those two things combined with the marking concerns, I'll probably return it or sell it. Much nicer than OEM but I think either sanding the plastic, or breaking it off the OEM is a better choice for me.

Out of curiosity how are guys struggling to read the stock dipstick? I will agree its not perfect but I never had any really issues getting a reading, whenever I change my oil I add 5.7 quarts and thats enough. Its always better to do a slight overfill than underfill.

So since the Wunderladen Dipstick is bad, are there any other aftermarket solutions?

If you need to check your oil level when the engine is hot put a napkin/paper towel between your finger and the handle.
Haha this is the equivalent of that blizzcom diablo immortal showcase when one of the devs said "you have phones, don't you?". Misses the mark entirely and belittles a legitimate issue. If I'm paying that much for a a metal stick with a fancy handle, I'd like for it to not burn my hand.

On a sidenote, strongly disagree that this is good product design. When standardizing anything in a technical field, the first thing to look at is all the possible applications, and where a customer will need customization. Good standards would mean they account for every use case in that standard.

An incredibly easy fix for the level issue would be to put the H and L in the same spots as OEM, and then have a Min and Max symbol (T for top and B for bottom?) for those who want to run more oil. Or maybe even just poke some holes? Then everyone's happy, no need to throw a disclaimer in the sale page and say "you have napkins, don't you?"

Basically what I alluded to in my previous post, definitely agree.

I have a feeling they had someone or a handful of someones that were looking for a custom dipstick for their use case. Made a few and decided to just offer it for sale to the masses and overlooked that was a specific use case and decided whatever it'll be fine. Now we're here as said masses that dont have that very specific use case. 🤷

How on earth have I missed this thread??? This is comedic gold!

I'll stir the pot thought. Some people in here are really stressed about an extra cap-full of oil. The Wunderladen stick is just fine. No need to spaz out.

Its not about stressing out about a cap full of oil. Its a measurement device that completely deviates from the factory part its supposed to replace. With zero mention (up until now) about why a measurement device is different than original.

I agree its annoying and i probably would have looked harder for something different had i know the markings were different.
