The new one weighs 3,815lbs for the manual. 100kg shy of 4,000lbs. Insane. I do think that it looks good though. It reminds me of 80s box flares. Peak power is also higher up in the rev range (by about 1,000rpm), which resolves one of your key criticisms.
Weight is insane, no doubt about it. I mean the G82 M4 weighs in as low as 3,660 lbs and is a much bigger car overall.

That’s why the new M2 is not priority on my list of cars. The FL5 CTR is ;)

I'm not fan but.. . It does look like something an FK8 fan could love. Almost as if that was the purpose all along.

Maybe they read this forum.

If you're a Max fan you have to get it in Zandvoort Blue.

its definitely going to be really fast but why does it have to be 3800s for a coupe? I can see maybe 3500, where is the all the weight?

The E46 (2000) M3 weighed 3500 lbs, and that was prior to all the changes in tech, road-noise reduction, and safety constraints in the last 20 years.

e92 was a flippin huge car with a v8 and was 3600lbs. I just dont know why bimmers are so heavy in general. You look at the 2 series and think it shouldn't be more than 3400lbs.
