Well... he may have come back after someone in a "bannable" way that the mods just ninja deleted before we saw it.

But I agree, based on what I saw from his post history no way was that a bannable offense, and I miss him now.

Nah this dude started getting real touchy with a couple other members, I remember that now. It was pretty funny to watch, and yes those posts are missing now.

What I'm wondering now is if the OP of this thread was banned...
It would show it on his user name.

I was really touchy when Honda delayed my car 3 months at port and I didn’t get banned. I was ready to buy a ticket to Tokyo to hand deliver a nasty gram to the Corporate Headquarters lol. Not really but I was pissed.

Really dumb decision to ban him if it was based on this thread. Was there something else going on? I'd like some context from the mods.

The bbfl5 guy was cussing out other forum members and arguing. He should have been banned. Maybe not hammeredsole though.

A brand new, unmodified, blown up, K20C1 is definitely rare. It doesn’t matter if the engine was made in Japan or the US. That’s irrelevant. Nothing is perfect and these aren’t bespoke, meticulously hand built vehicles. While I (like many others) like to believe that Japanese manufacturing is better than the US, I don’t think this is based in reality. I think this is romanticism of the 90’s and early 2000’s. Anyway, we’re talking about one blown K20C1 out of thousands and THOUSANDS of K20C1’s built in the US since the FK8 started production. The OP was simply unlucky. Let’s keep a sense of perspective.šŸ™‚

Having said that…

Given how new the car is, I’d want the whole car replaced too. This seems reasonable to me and it’s within your legal rights. Even if they put a brand new engine in the car, I’d still be put off by the experience. A major engine repair or replacement would always be in the car’s maintenance records too.
I'll admit that I don't have any actual statistics to back my view up, but I do feel like Japanese build quality for most things is superior. Just looking at the footage of the FL5 being built vs the footage of the engine being built, the vibe I get is there is more focus, attention to detail and dedication by the workers. I also always find that whenever I've ordered parts from Japan, the attention to detail just in how they wrap the peices and protect them in the mail vs parts for elsewhere is noticably way better. I've visited there a few times and toured the Mazda factory. Even vs the BMW factory in Munich that I've also toured I have to say the Japanese factory impressed me more with what I saw.

Not knocking specifically the USA more just reflecting my deep admiration for the Japanese people and their craft. Again, I accept I have no statistical evidence to back this up.

I also have absolutely nothing to support my views on this issue but if Honda had offered me a choice of an FL5 built in Japan, or an FL5 built in Indiana for the same price, I would easily choose Japan.

I love my type R and have owned over 20 Honda's, but the new ones aren't what they were in the 90's-2000's. I also have a 22 mustang cs/gt premium and this view gets reinforced every time I drive the Ford. It's significantly ahead of honda in fit, finish, and overall build quality. Even my GF who's also a honda person makes the same comments. Which BTW her 2024 civic touring is now going on day 8 in the dealership with no end in sight as they can't figure out why it's hemorrhaging oil....

I’ve had a couple Fords, and know a couple forums that would, along with myself, find this statement hilarious.

2024 honda 5,000 miles... not my type R, but also absolutely not uncommon on new Honda's. I honestly hate saying it, but the quality is seriously in decline.

Unfortunately some people confuse anecdotal with incontrovertible.
Well, their personal experience is incontrovertible, but it simply doesn’t apply to others…even if they think it should.šŸ˜‚
