I have a 2023 type R that’s almost 2 years old with 17,000 miles. It’s in the shop for an oil change, an alignment and to fix a rattle in the dashboard. It’s a light ticking that goes away if I just rest my hand on top of the dashboard. Move my hand away and the ticking restarts.

Dealership told me they’ve taken the whole dashboard apart and put it back together with tape and it’s still rattles. Anyone had this problem?

Also, they tell me my front and rear pads need to be replaced (5mm front and 3mm rear)and rotors turned. 17,000 miles! This car has not been tracked. It’s mostly been driven very easily and I drive it like a hybrid where if there’s no one behind me and the light is red, I’m rolling it to the stoplight. I’m not a hard driver. Are the pads that much softer than a regular car? I got 95,000 out of another Honda and 160,000 out of a hybrid.

Thanks!

Check to see if the rattle is coming from the headunit. I had a rattle that sounded like it was coming from there and ended up doing this:

And it resolved my issue. I could press on the dash also to make it stop. Otherwise I would take off the vent and apply some felt tape up in that area for anything touching, or put some sound deadining up there if possible.

Edit: Break wear in 10k seems to be normal, especially for rears due to them being used to help turn in.

I experience a dashboard rattle under high acceleration right behind the infotainment screen. The brakes definitely wear fast. I have 8500 miles and already hear a squealing from both rear wheels. I guess its just part of the ownership of these cars.

Rear brake wear is normal. I don't trust the front measurement though.

Thanks everyone. I love this forum.

I think tomorrow I’ll talk to them about the head unit and see if that is something they’d try.

Good to know about the brakes. Surprising. I’ve done pads and rotors on a Pilot, E-class MB and a Lexus GX. Is the Type R something I’d want to get into or just pay for it?

Type R rear is very easy, same as every 2016+ Civic. Front brakes are bit annoying

I have a Sport Touring, but the dashboard is pretty much the same. Mine was rattling in the same area too. I followed that video that was posted earlier and it helped, but still had dashboard rattles.

I removed the glove box and surrounding trim, and tightened the bolts that were holding in the passenger air bag under the dash using an extension. I also removed the AC dash mesh grill and tightened the bolts holding the dashboard to the dashboard frame. No more rattles.

THe dashboard sounds like typical 11th gen Civic issues. You'd be surprised to know that you've actually gotten alot of miles of out your brakes lol. THE CTR uses its rear brakes constantly to help with turn-in and stability. 17k miles means you really don't drive your car hard. I did my first brake job at 9k miles and my second brake job at 18k miles(wasn't necessary but I wanted to get rid of pads that produced a lot of dust.)

Just to add to your thread regarding the dash rattles, this build documents a few other issues in addition to the infotainment area rattle. Page two has their infotainment repair, narrowing it to a module behind the screen:

https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/2024-revworx-fl5-type-r-build.54876/

I have not dug into my infotainment area to work out the rattle, but is definitley there now with 2500 miles.

I put Akebono pads on a Mercedes I once had and that really reduced the dust. Which did you use and are you happy with them?

Dang! I got my recall done recently and they mentioned that my rear pads were pretty much done at 33k, this is my daily driver as well. Even though the front pads were still beefy and had like 20k miles left, I ended up swapping all 4 wheels with ceramic pads for less dust. But as someone stated above, the increased wear on your rear pads is due to the brake/torque vectoring system that the FL5 uses.

I have the rattle too, but oddly although my CTR is my daily driver ... I have just over 40,000 miles on the clock and my brakes are still holding up ... ( front & rear)

If you want dust free brakes, Akebonos is the way to go for these cars, I have Dixcel Type Z on my car, less dust than stock but still have dust.
