two step performance, 27won, rv6, axion, invidia all maintain OEM heat shields.

MAPerformance does not.

Those seem to be the main brands.
Hmm gotcha.

After reviewing everything. I'll go with the TSP DP and then I'll take that and the OEM heat shields to send off to Swain Tech for a proper thermal coating.

Update!

So after coming across and looking at about 20-30 dyno graphs of the FL5, I couldn’t find many without the TSP/PRL downpipe.

So I went back to the FK8, looked at + dyno graphs and found cars with similar mod lists, on the same dyno and with the same tuner.

Look at the top rows numbers vs the bottom rows.

Pretty big difference.

Which downpipe are you going with after this research?

The skeptic in me says that's still not reliable enough. You're looking at different setups with different goals without knowing what's being changed where and for what. Finding isolated graphs with just the downpipe would be far better, and is the more "scientific" way of seeing which pipe is better.

Everything on the bottom is a different companies downpipe as well.

Have you tried emailing the manufacturers for dyno tests that's they ran during r&d?

I've looked through plenty of the FK8 dyno results from drob and there is a car with the HKS DP making 375 and the RV6 DP making 377 when some others with the RV6 made 390 and more torque so that's not really reliable. There is seemingly enough variance between cars and conditions that day to pretty much negate that difference.

Maybe this is a pet project or a pastime. Not sure what the objective is. All of these cars will have a different stock baseline and they could be tuned differently. Tuned for track vs. drag racing vs. street. Some may be tuned conservatively, while others could be tuned at the ragged edge. Some may have a little better fuel than the other. Way too many variables to use this information to inform decision making. The subtext is as follows: All things being equal, a catted downpipe will likely make a little less power than a catless pipe. But we already knew that. And we're talking about power at the margins. At those power levels 10-15 hp and like tq won't change your life, I promise. This is overthinking to the max.

Personally, I enjoyed the research.

Just found it weird only one company posted hp/tq gains while all others posted “increased gains.” So I wanted to investigate and it’s been a fun week or two researching.

Plus, I know we all work hard. But I literally put my life on the line as law enforcement in some tough streets of South Florida… so I don’t like blowing that hard earned “blood money”without sufficient research on my part…

I just wanted to share some findings. You’re way more knowledgeable in cars then I am and you’re probably right that it’s minimal differences but I just enjoyed/liked finding some proof is all.

Thank you, I appreciate it!

Hoping to make a specialty unit soon… cause right now the average cost of a 11 hour shift to pay for the downpipe consists of:

“5 reports, 3 crash reports, a foot chase and two uses of force to earn this downpipe.”

vs

“I sat in an unmarked car and staked out a house for 10 hours to buy this downpipe, sure why not.”

Lol, big difference!

If you're going to go through all this for a slight bump in hp. You are better off getting a flashpro. Take a ride to see @Jester04 get a tune and jailbreak. Then get canflex and e85 tune.
That's your best bang for buck and the biggest gains besides turbo upgrade. I promise a dp ain't worth a foot chase.

i already ordered hondata and just hit up jester. He’s about 2 hours away.

I wish, there is only one E85 gas station and its 20-25 mins across town. So I don’t want to deal with that lol

if there is a decent amount of GOOD noise and hp gains then a foot chase could be worth the DP. Lol

This, this, this. As I mentioned on Page 2, if you're looking for value and to maximize power, I would skip the dp. Flashpro + CANFlex + tune = all the power you will need for a street car. And at less than $2,000 to boot if you're enterprising.

On a jester tune and a good safe FP optimization you won’t need Ethanol. We data logged my tune over and over and 93 e10 is all I need. If I wanted to push the fuel pump Into override I could run more E but safe and consistent is 👌
