Get the steering recall done or keep on trucking?

I'm at 23k miles and 2.5 years with zero steering issues. Dealer keeps calling me to do the recall and I keep brushing them off due to a few of the stories on here of people who either had serious issues after the recall, or say the steering feels less sharp/precise.

I'm worried about getting out of warranty and then having issues that I am forced to pay out of pocket for.
I'm also worried about ruining the steering feel.

For those of you who never had any issues, what would you do?

Just because you never had an issue doesn't mean it won't show up out of no where one day. For me, if it's a safety issue, get it done regardless. Giving up a bit of "feel" is better than potentially getting into an accident in my book.

FYI - you can always perform a recall at anytime regardless if you're within the warranty period or not if it is indeed a "Recall". If it is a "TSB", then you're only covered within the warranty period. People often get the two mixed up and use those two terms interchangeably.

Lol. I’m at the same mileage without issue. I’m also on the fence about getting the recall done. I worry more about the technician lottery than the repair itself. If I knew the person who would be doing the repair was competent, I’d just have it done. I’m not willing to roll the dice yet though. If anyone knows of a quality Honda tech in MA or nearby, I’d love to hear about them!

Technician lottery is a concern, but you gotta pick your poison.

Get the recall done. I would be less concerned about the change in steering feel and more concerned about them damaging my car while performing the work. I suggest taking photos and videos, and conducting a walkthrough with the service advisor to document the condition of your vehicle. Overkill? Maybe, but if they damage your car while performing the recall, and this has happened to several people early on, it instantly turns into a finger-pointing exercise. Most shops will not cop to damaging your vehicle unless you have proof; they just won't.

I would get it done. My 2025 Si has the steering issue right now. 16k miles. Somehow my car is not on the recall list so the dealer is giving me a hard time and doesn't want to perform the fix.

Gonna be hard to keep trucking in a Civic so I vote to do the recall.

Im at 16k miles and no issues so far. As others have stated, concerned about the tech or even porter messing with the car. I’ve never taken a car into a dealer for service, not even for free oil change. Just how I am.

That said, anyone know a tech in MD or DMV area, I’d be interested.

I do all my own service and oil changes. My job is mechanic. That said when it comes to this system I would rather gamble on having the dealer do the work.

They are NOT going to give this recall work or steering rack replacement to the 18 year old lube tech. It's a safety item that will be handed to a seasoned tech.

If you're worried, find a dealer that works on type Rs more than others. In the past I had gone to the dealer that I bought my car from and had a bad experience. The primary demographic of the dealership is old people who drive crossovers, so that explained it imo.

Ended up finding another dealership for recalls/warranty/etc and every time I've gone they have had a type R in the bay or being queued up. For me that's a lot more confidence inspiring.

It's a safety recall, so just get it done

My 2025 FL5 isn't on the recall list (12/2024 build).
But, my wife's '24 Civic was. I didn't drive it very often, but when I did, I saw that it was awful.
At first, I called the dealer and was told 'no parts yet'.
I drove it more making sure I tried it on different roads.
On the highway, the steering stuck wherever I put it off center. It seemed to have no centering action.
On two-lanes, the same, but even more stuck.
I called the dealer back and told the service manager that it was really bad, even dangerous.
I got an appointment for two days out.
The fix worked great for that car. Very different feeling. I'd recommend getting it done.

Try Honda of Chantilly, they have a seasoned Master Tech (also a FL5 owner) who can do the steering recall for you. Ask for Alberto to work on the car.
