Will this void the warranty? Considering sending in my ECU as I still have my second car for a little bit longer and I can ship and have it back without worrying.

It depends. It absolutely won't affect the warranty of unrelated items (ie, your steering pump fails), but it does have some risk should you have a drivetrain issue. Should you have an issue with the engine it may require a legal battle to get warranty service if Honda decides that the tune is at fault or related.

BLUF: If you're concerned with the validity of your warranty from Honda, don't modify the car.

To answer your question: Yes, no, maybe. I suggest referring to the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act for more information on this topic. There's never really a straight answer on this and it's not even clear that one could successfully invoke the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act if a dealership attempts to void your warranty due to having the Hondata software (or any other part) installed on your car. FWIW, I've tuned nearly every performance car I've owned and I've never had a dealership issue. YMMV.

Thank you. I actually reached out to my dealer and they said any modifications will void my warranty. I know these engines are great. It's my first Type R and want to enjoy it for now but down the road I'll probably going with the Flashpro tune

That's standard dealer BS, as stated there is the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act which protects you BUT... you may need to fight for any work. Key, as always, is finding a decent dealer.

Appreciate it. Could I go to a different Honda dealer for any work or can I only go to the dealer where I purchased my vehicle from?

Where you bought it from has nothing to do with where you take it for work. I'm not heading back to Monroe, LA for an oil change :D

Our results on 93 may provide some insight.

Factory tune baseline: 303/333
Hondata 93 octane base map: 320/368
Custom 93 octane: 359/383
Custom high octane fuel blend (estimated 97-98 octane): 389/383

With our custom tuning we were very comfortable with where we left it. There is likely a little bit more on the table for those that are willing to push things further. We also expect that as Hondata continues to refine their software (adding new tables, etc) we can further safely get more power out of the tunes. All in all, great results so far.

Mods include:
  • PRL High Volume Catted Downpipe
  • Milltek frontpipe back exhaust (resonated)
  • PRL Stage 1 Intake Kit (hose and drop in filter)
We have not yet upgraded the intercooler, which we expect would be quite beneficial at this point.

Does the Stage 1 canned tune on the website include no lift shift? Also are the dyno gains the same with and without a downpipe? and if not, will adding them later automatically change the power?

Thanks in advance

Yes, no lift shift is enabled at 4000 RPM with 80% throttle by default.

All test results shown were with a car that had an aftermarket downpipe, we did not dyno test a car with a factory downpipe. It is reasonable to assume that the downpipe helped but please note the tune was road tested on factory downpipe cars and the results were still very positive.

Regardless of which downpipe you are using, no tune changes would be advised.
